Too tall for travel cot

Hello all,

I am struggling to find a travel cot with sides higher than 67cm.

My son is only 2 but he is 92cm tall and he can easily get out of the travel cot.

We have a few holidays in the next two months, Cornwall, France and UAE - I fully intend to eventually transition him to a bed but on the trips there won't be a bed available for him.

So I would like to buy a travel cot that he can't climb out of but I haven't been able to find one with tall enough sides. He is in a sleeping gro bag already and he just flips himself over the side! I guess he is quite strong 😂

Any help is much appreciated! 🙏🏻

The assumption is that by 2 a child is in a bed. If you don't have a bed for him in your accommodation, you would be better with one of those blow up sleeping bag bed things TBH.

If he is able to get out of the travel cot then he is past that stage, he needs a bed. My eldest was out at 15 months, long legged houndi! For your own comfort I would amend the booking to facilitate the extra bed. Otherwise no one will be getting a decent night's sleep.

Those blow up beds pack well. They have sides that make the child feel secure. The kid can get out though so you do need to check the hotel room for hazards.

Make sure you trial the blow up beds. My son's hated the feel and noise they make. They are quite noisy of they move a lot and can. Hope they work for you.

My 3 year old would destroy a travel cot. For my other child at this age we would take a bed rail or they would sleep in the middle of us.

Check the rules, most accommodation requires you to have a bed beyond a certain age, as in you request a rollaway bed from the hotel. Not all rooms can accommodate an extra bed though so book a triple/family room.

We had a Graco one which had higher sides than that, but both mine went into beds at 2 so wouldn't have been using it at that age.

Agree with PP. The Shrunks blow up travel bed is excellent.

Our petite 18 month old DD could climb out of the travel cot. It was time for a bed! Think we used a low bed/ mattress on floor to begin with.

If he's determined to get out he might well find a way no matter how deep the travel cot is.

My little one slept in a travel cot (occasionally) when she was 3yrs old. She was too long for it really, but was content to curl up to sleep. What an obliging child. and no, she never climbed out of it. She was in her cot at home until her third birthday, when we removed the bars, and it became a little bed for her.

Hi all

Thanks very much for your help, I asked the hotels and they said there is actually a bed in there. So now I just need to figure out do I bring a toddler bed guard or a pool noodle type thing? And how do I get him to stay in bed!!! 😳 any tips much appreciated.

I'm also wondering if we should buy a tent for naps on the beach? Did any of your little ones enjoy that?

Thank you!

Personally I found a pool noodle just slipped out of the sheet. I guess it depends how tight they are. Friend has a bumper foam wedge that is a similar idea but heavier, but we've just used a wooden bed guard but you can get mesh version. Bit of a pain to travel with though.

Getting out of bed depends on how much they wake, otherwise you need to stay with them until they are asleep if they get up a lot. A few books and dim the lights works for us.

We used to put the mattress on the floor to avoid falling out of bed.

And those beach tents are hotter than the sun, it's the closed sides, so personally I'd recommend a parasol or small easy up.
