Incorrect info about me on child's passport application

Wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this.
Applied for my daughter's first passport, it asked for my town of birth, so put down the town I thought I was born in. Come to putting my birth certificate along with my daughter's in the envelope ready for when they ask us to send it off, and it clicked that there's a different town written on my passport and birth certificate! I put the Oxfordshire town where we were living at the time, but it's Oxford on my birth cert and passport. Will this affect anything? Can't find a way to contact anyone at the passport office, if that's even possible.
Hoping it's nothing but don't want there to be a hold up.

If you've got a British Passport and put the number on the application then you don't need to send your birth certificate. I doubt it will make much difference to the application. There is a helpline number you can call.

My family moved from the area I was born in when I was a baby and I'd always been told I was born in xxx place so put that on all official forms, passport etc. In later life I had to go to xxx place for work and in general conversation it came to light that actually where I was born was in yyy town next to xxx but definitely a different town

I think my parents said xxx place as they had moved a long way and it was somewhere that more people have heard of so easier to just say that.

It has never caused me any problems and it's way too late to change anything now so I just carry on with it. I have no idea what would happen if it ever came to light.

Ive just done something very similar. I rang the helpline and they advised me to send all the correct documentation ( so your birth certificate) plus a covering letter explaining the error. Best to do this than try ignore the error and hope it doesn't get noticed x

I filled it out online and it says I need to send child's birth certificate and either mine or her father's, do we not actually need to?

I only sent my child's birth certificate as both me and her father have British passports so are already authenticated.

I think that's a great option, I'll confirm with the helpline, will give them a try tomorrow but I shall do that anyway if I can't speak to an actual person! I think its a really understandable mistake, can't be an uncommon occurrence!

When they ask you send documents it will say exactly what to send.

dementedpixie · 10/02/2022 22:17

Sometimes it asks you to send documents you don't need to send. There have been threads about it before
