Looking for recommendations for free (or very cheap) days out in southwest for me and my two young children!

The donkey sanctuary in east Devon near sidmouth, great day out, lovely views and walks good cafeand free parking

The Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth. You’ll often find a themed children’s trail sheet to complete (a small charge for this).
RAMM in Exeter. In the school holidays there are normally some family-friendly events.
The Superworm Trail at Haldon Forest
Letterboxing on Dartmoor www.dartmoor.gov.uk/enjoy-dartmoor/outdoor-activities/letterboxing-and-geocaching

If you have national trust membership then there’s lots of days out which won’t cost you much.

If not then, as mentioned above, the donkey sanctuary is lovely.
Lots of lovely beaches to visit.
Blaise castle in Bristol used to have a free toy museum, not sure if it’s still there, but there’s nice walks and a nice park anyway.
The cliff railway between Lynton and lynmouth opens soon, next weekend I think, for the season and is only £2 for kids and £3 for adults I believe.
Crabbing off the harbour wall at west bay, there’s a nice park there too and a quirky cafe with antique furniture for a hot chocolate.
A walk around the river and across the ancient bridge at Tarr steps, might be able to spot some Exmore ponies on the way.
The cinema in Dorchester is very cheap. I think tickets are around £3-£4.

I’ll add anything else I can think of.

Diggerland is one of my favourites. Wookey hole? Longleat?

Where in the southwest? Long way between east dorset, bristol and cornwall....

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 08/02/2022 19:21

Longleat is just about one of the most expensive days out you can do in the southwest!

Wookey hole might be a good shout though, you can often find 2 for 1 tickets in the paper around school holidays.

Oh sorry missed the free bit in the title and just saw "days out!" (We aren't well off but have used tesco vouchers/ blue peter badges for longleat once a year as its our favourite day out!)

lots and lots of national trust places if you are happy with that. But obviously that's not cheap either.

Lots of amazing walks and beaches and parks if you say where abouts you are thinking?

On Bristol there's lots of parkland. Durham Downs has views of the Clifton Suspension Bridge and wide open spaces . Cross the bridge and walk to the end of the road and there's Ashton Court which has a deer park, a miniature train that operates in good weather and a golf course. A walk around the harbourside and you'll see SS Great Britain (it costs to go on board but you get free return visits) and The Matthew (a replica of the ship John Cabot sailed to America in ).
In Bath there's Victoria Park which has loads of play equipment.
