Hotels in Edinburgh

I do know Edinburgh but it’s ages since I spent any time there. I’ve decided to book an overnight stay soon for my birthday. Don’t want anything as expensive as The Witchery. I’d rather spend more money on the food than the hotel since we will be out exploring most of the time. Would want to be central And happy to pay up to £200 a night.
Any recommendations. Was looking at 21212 ( could have dinner there as well) . But would like to consider other options

I've been looking myself. Have a look at Market Street Hotel and Cheval Old Town Chambers Hotel.

It depends what night of the week you’re staying. Most places are more expensive on Friday and Saturday nights. If you’re able to stay on another night, you’ll be able to get a room at Tigerlily for your budget.
If it is a Friday or Saturday you’re staying, look at 24 Royal Edinburgh and The Angels Share.

The apex in the grass market, the Carlton or radisson and princes suites are all nice x

yikesanotherbooboo · 02/02/2022 06:40

We stayed at the he radisson which is comfortable and very central if a bit generic.

When is it for? Avoid the 6 nations home games weekends or prices will be double their norm.
£200 sadly doesn't buy you much in Edinburgh and I've noticed that trying to book 1 night over a weekend is often more expensive, or as expensive as the total price for 2 nights. My guess is that most people stay mid week or Friday-Sunday so if you only want a Saturday their chances of filling that room on Friday are probably quite slim.
21212 is interesting and more boutique and "special" than most of the big chains will feel.
The Raeburn in Stockbridge is a small boutique sort of place. They have a restaurant but you've also got Scran & Scallie gastropub across the road for excellent food (very different to 21212 though).
Nira Caledonian is also boutique. At weekend it's stretching your budget but midweek you could have a junior suite room.
Eden Locke is a bit more modern but might be more facilities than you need for one night.
The Rutland is also under budget mid-week but stretching it at weekend. Likewise The Kimpton Charlotte Square and The Sheraton.

@emmathedilemma some fantastic suggestions. Thankyou .
( and to everyone else) Stayed in Edinburgh during a rugby weekend previously. Great atmosphere but so busy I would avoid it again. Stay is midweek. . I am looking at all suggestions but The Raeburn looking good. Mind you the rooftop pool at The Sheraton is inviting too

Ooh choices choices!
I like the vibe of The Raeburn (never stayed there because I live too close!), it’s one of those “anything goes” sorts of places - young and old, fancy and casual, often a dog or two in the bar, it’s got a covered outdoor area with heaters and fairy lights which is really pretty too.

RunnerDown · 02/02/2022 20:42

You have just made my decision. Love fairy lights !

LOL enjoy!

Riverlee · 02/02/2022 20:54

Holiday Inn, next to Edinburgh zoo?

RunnerDown · 19/03/2022 20:36

@emmathedilemma Don’t know if you will see this but we had a really lovely break at the Raeburn. It’s very relaxed and friendly. Wouldn’t have thought about staying in Stockbridge, but it was much nicer than being in the centre of Edinburgh . Still easy to walk to everything.
It was too cold to take advantage of sitting under the fairy lights. We did eat at the Scran and Scallie 1 night. It was absolutely fabulous and as you know - literally across the road. James Martin was eating at the table next to ours .
So Thankyou for a great recommendation

The Scotsman is one of my favourites. Depends what you are after but I rate it over the Balmoral.

emmathedilemma · 20/03/2022 19:00

Oh I’m glad you had a good time @RunnerDown! Did they not have the heaters on under the fairy lights? We sat out there in December!

RunnerDown · 20/03/2022 20:42

Maybe they did. We didn’t get back till 10.30 the first night and it rained on the second. No-one else was sitting out. Will definitely go back in the summer months
