Recommendations for somewhere good to eat in Manchester (nearish Potato Wharf)

As it says - will be in Manchester & would like to eat somewhere nice. Ideally no £££s but interesting - maybe middle eastern / caribbean / something that we wouldn't normally get at home. I'm treating my dd, but she's only been living in the city a little while so doesn't know her way around yet. Only other requirement is not super super loud (ie not hard concrete walls and club level music) as we'd like to be able to chat! Also any recommendations for nice bars to go on to gratefully recieved :) :)

Sapporo Teppanyaki

What sort of food is it?

Sapporo is a 'performance' Asian restaurant - chefs performing tricks with eggs, throwing potatoes for customers to catch in their mouths. It's entertaining & the food is nice.

What kind of cuisines do you like?

Deansgate has some nice bars - Atlas (lots of gins), Dirty Martini etc. Spinningfields is just off Deansgate - there's The Alchemist, The Ivy, 20 Stories, Banyan etc for drinks & cocktails.

Not sure about performance with dinner! We both like most things, maybe middle Eastern, Caribbean, but also like Indian, Thai, etc etc

Deansgate sounds a good call for after dinner for sure :)

THIS PLACE is in Spinningfields and is really good.

That looks perfect, thank you!

unfortunately Manchester is a bit chain-heavy.
indian tiffin room is great.
pho cue is lovely but maybe a 20min walk from where you're staying.

Indian tiffin room also looks good - I'll show dd both & see what she prefers :)

I'm wondering now whether we need to book or if given it's january & a thursday night we can mooch around & have a look at menus & make a decision when we're there, might be nicer

El Rincon traditional Spanish. It doesn’t look much from the outside but it’s lovely. Nice atmosphere where you’ll be able to chat. Don’t think they do bookings for two. You can usually wait at bar if necessary but you probably won’t need to. Also Dimitris is nice.

@Fivemoreminutes1

Sapporo Teppanyaki
I found it expensive and didn’t love the food. Would have preferred decent food and nobody juggling eggs and throwing bits of potato around

I agree Pho Cue is really really good. El Gato Negro is excellent too

I had to have it explained to me quite slowly why Pho Cue is called that.

I recommend Siam Smiles
