You won't be stuck in a hotel room wherever you stay as Jersey is small, and unless you went to one of the luxury hotels in the valleys, you'll be near things. I'd personally stay in St Helier as you'll have a greater variety of things than in Gorey, which is very pretty, but has far less going on i the evening. Which hotel have you found? I could probably say which are the nicer cheap ones. It sounds like the one you're looking at is at Havre de Pas, which isn't the best part of St Helier.

I had a quick look at booking.com. Although I went for St Helier over Gorey, given the options, you'd be best off in Maison Gorey. It's quiet and nice, and you're only a short bus ride into town, or a walk away from some restaurants and cafes.

notmrscookie · 20/01/2022 07:34

@Constantcrayfish.I booked the maison grey .it free cancellation too which s great given the current climate.
Do u recommend any of the bus tours around the island?

I would get a bus pass. You buy them at the main bus terminal in at helier (all the buses go back to there from what I could tell!). Worked out v cheap and you can hop on and off. I went round the island easily on my own with 2 young DC a couple of years ago.

I'd go to the zoo for one day...they do lots of talks etc as you go round. It was great.

Constantcrayfish · 20/01/2022 10:14

I'd agree with that. The bus tours will take you to the places they have deals with - unless you desperately want to go to Jersey Pearl, you're far better off exploring on the normal buses.

Soffit · 20/01/2022 10:17

Bus or walking is best - it's tiny

ememem84 · 20/01/2022 12:58

I’ve seen your dm sorry haven’t replied as working. But seems as though you’ve sorted accommodation!

Gorey is beautiful. And there is a good bus into st helier from there you can hop on other busses.

I always recommend people visit the war tunnels when they’re here. And mont orguiel castle (Gorey castle).

Look to get a bus pass once you’re here it’s the most discounted I think b

Constantcrayfish · 20/01/2022 14:09

What will your budget for spending be? Entry to things can be expensive, but you can offset that by eating in the cheaper places.

TeenPlusCat · 20/01/2022 14:16

The busses go to loads of nice places. You would definitely miss out if you go to Jersey and just stay in St Helier.

Greve de Lecq (North West) is a lovely beach with range of eating places.
We are members of the zoo, it is v good, but it is pricey as a one off.
The Jersey War Tunnels v interesting.
Walking to Corbiere lighthouse is fun if causeway is clearing as you do it.
Waves at St Ouens at high tide are fab.

It looks like you have some kind of experience with Jersey. Thanks for replying here.

I live here! Happy to answer any questions.

(I had a lecturer once called Betty Wood. Are you she?)

I'm so missing Jersey. It's my 'happy place'. DH and I have visited pretty much every year for 25 years until the pandemic. Then in 2020 we couldn't go, and last year DD was too unwell so DH went along to our deferred holiday. We daren't book this year as again we think DD won't be well enough for ferry or flights.

I got that. Grin

MaggieFS · 20/01/2022 17:42

I love Jersey. Nothing helpful to add to the thread, but living in England the quick flight makes it feel like I've truly escaped but without arriving into a city airport. I've been four times and can't wait for another trip.

notmrscookie · 20/01/2022 20:20

Really, the island bus trips are not worth it compared to just getting a regular bus. Get the one to Greve de Lecq which will take you up to the north west and round L’Etacq, which is stunning. It’s hard to avoid good views in Jersey.

Yeah, I also agree with you here. People love the beauty.
