Looking for some suggestions of where to eat in London cos I don't have a clue!
We're heading down from central Scotland to London for the weekend at the end of the month, primarily to go to the Harry Potter studios
the trip is for DD's 11th birthday and we'll need to find somewhere to eat for both the Friday and Saturday nights.
We're staying near Kings Cross, so looking for ideas around about there - bonus points if there's something related to Harry Potter!

Kings Cross has got Dishoom and Hoppers, both of which are quite buzzy, if she doesn't mind spice. Also Honest Burgers, which is nice but less exciting.

Caravan is good in kings cross.
Cut + Grind do incredible burgers. Well worth a visit.
Can't think of anywhere HP themed but if you Google it you might find somewhere doing a witches and wizard's afternoon tea.
If DD likes cats I recommend Java Whiskers- really well run cat cafe with yummy afternoon tea (and cats!). It's in Great Portland St, easy to get there on public transport (or a reasonable walk from KX).

You usually need to book wherever you go. Don't leave it to the day and find you can't get in anywhere. Even with covid. Kings cross is a popular area with lots of good places and is always busy.

Hope you have a lovely time!

Franco Manca or Giraffe

Dishoom and Caravan in kings x are lovely but would be completely wasted on my kids!! They like the Rainforest Cafe when in London. Keeps them entertained.
Bit younger than yours, though.

St Pancras station featured in HP a good deal - the Booking Office is a nice place for a meal. Not at all HP but fun and definitely different, Abeno in Bloomsbury (walking distance from Euston and Kings Cross) is an okonomi-yaki - basically a Japanese greasy spoon (but since it's Japanese, it's pretty healthy) where you and they cook in front of you on a grill. www.abeno.co.uk/

thanks for ideas - she loves Wagamama so the japanese place suggested might work. And burgers are always a good option....
I did think about Rainforest Cafe as she's never done something like that before, it might have a bit of wow factor ....but I suspect it would be overpriced mediocre food....
but defo keen to get places booked. I don't want to be wandering around, not really knowing the area and trying to find something

Yes, I'm afraid rainforest cafe really is overpriced mediocre food! Went there once and am mystified by people who recommend it! Have a great trip. You won't be bored. Any of the free galleries or museums are good, and if you're feeling flush there's no end of things to do! Google reviews on restaurants (that pop up in Google maps) are really helpful

Google Granary Square, King's Cross and take a look at the restaurants there. A couple have been mentioned already. Its a nice spot of london to wander around, sit by canal and good ice cream place too.

thanks, this looks really good
no way would I get DD in a veggie restaurant @gerispringer - the girl is a die hard carnivore (despite me not having eaten meat for 30 odd years)

sketch is really cool, it’s very pink!

My teenage son loves Wagamama's and loved Kintan - Korean restaurant where you cook your own food but randomly has s'mores which you can cook as part of the set menu. He really loved it. Def not the best food you can get but grown up enough (ie not gimicky), food that most people would eat (ie would eat) and a little bit of "cook your own food" theatre

Inamo was always fun its Japanese and the table has projections on it to play little games, watch the chefs cooking and other things like that. Cute novelty factor!

Findingthelight1 · 20/01/2022 07:31

The Lighterman is good, and welcoming of kids. I'd do one night there and one at Dishoom if I were you.

TheChemicalMother · 20/01/2022 07:32

Do venture down for a stroll along the South Bank in the river in the evening, though.

Or China Town.

It’s quick and easy to get to and from Kings X on the tube.
