Cheap and cheerful is key here. I've never been before so I'm eager to hear all about it.

Look for coloured glass on the beach (take a sandwich bag) go to creams of seaham for a cream tea, go very hungry and only order 2 portions for 4 people (order 2 extra drinks)

Not sure on hotels. Seaham Hall is there but it's very expensive! Sunderland is 15 minutes away on the bus so you could stay there?

Tommy the soldier memorial
Sea glass from the beach
Dalton Park is really near if you like shopping

There's not a huge amount in Seaham to do really.

Google No.16, B and B right next to sea front and the Tommy statue.

There’s a marina which you can see from Tommy(to your right as you look out to sea) where there’s some little cafes, a little beach and the lifeboat museum(its v small).

Walk south along the coast from Tommy, all the way past the industrial estate that’s on your right and you’ll come to Hawthorn Cove, a beautiful and tiny little beach with amazing views from the top of the cliffs. You can walk back through Hawthorn Dene and stop at the Staps(Stapylton Arms) for a beer/coffee/pub meal.

I stayed at the Seaton lane hotel s few times and it was really nice.

This way you’ll also pass the blast beach, used for film sets in Alien iirc

Play dates baby lounge in in town centre is good for babies and toddlers if you have little ones. Beach and costal walks are nice. It's a fairly small town, there's not a huge amount to do. Some good places for a curry.

The seaton lane inn is a good place to stay if seaham hall is too expensive. I personally wouldn’t stay there without a car as there’s not a lot to do! Although there is a train station with easy access to Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland.

I've stayed here for sea glass hunting but had a car. It is a small town and there isn't much to do apart from the beach, certainly not to occupy you for more than a couple of days. If you had a car you could go to the national glass centre in sunderland and go to durham etc
