Somewhere like littlehampton? Brighton?

We go to littlehampton every summer due to my autistic DS really loving it there and the routine of going to the same place every year which he thrives on. We can't stay in guesthouses or hotels due to noise, we have already had an issue due to this in the past where we had to completely abandon our holiday because a screaming child kept DS1 awake all night and he had a panic attack. So we stay in holiday homes which he loves as no noise.

This year sadly there are no holiday homes on booking.com for littlehampton. So I've tried to find somewhere similar enough for DS. Only place I could find was Brighton..found a nice apartment there. Never been to Brighton before. What is it like for kids? Is it similar to littlehampton? I can still cancel for free but really not sure where else to look?

Anyone recommend anywhere? Literally anywhere in the UK that's autism friendly like littlehampton. Thankyou!

I love Brighton and from what I remember of Littlehampton they are pretty similar - only Brighton is packed in the summer, and pretty noisy.

What is it he likes / you like about Littlehampton? The rides? Beach?

Brighton is a city and gets very very crowded and noisy. There are bars and restaurants all along the 'boardwalk' by the beach (massive pebbles btw) which get very busy. The pier is loud. There is a main road along the front so traffic galore.
Basically... for a child with ASD - no. I really wouldn't recommend it. (My daughter has ASD. Brighton has been a place of many meltdowns)
I like Weymouth - has a fantastic beach. Or Swanage. Swanage is fairly small so might get busy but doesn't have the bar/restaurant/clubs/crowds hanging out culture that Brighton has.

I think Hastings would be better, or smaller and quieter but Dymchurch

Brighton is much bigger and gets much busier than Littlehampton. Another vote for Weymouth or Swannage. Both lovely places with some old fashioned seaside charm, and smaller and quieter than Brighton.

Also the seagulls at Brighton are pure evil and the size of eagles. One stole an ice cream right out of my hand.

Do you want a Sandy beach?

CrimbleCrumble1 · 30/12/2021 16:03

How about Folkestone?

Dozer · 30/12/2021 16:04

Not Brighton, too loud and too much sensory input.

Weymouth gets v crowded and noisy.

What about Northumberland?

Bognor? Selsey? Is there really nothing in LA (local slang!) have you looked out Rustington way?

Sparkletastic · 30/12/2021 16:13

Brighton is absolutely nothing like Littlehampton. Try Bognor, Bournemouth, Selsey or Camber Sands.

Internetio · 30/12/2021 16:13

Have you looked on Airbnb- lots of available
Properties in LA, I suspect private holiday cottages don’t like the booking.com fees!

I'd say Brighton was too hectic and noisy. What about some where in Norfolk, there are some super sandy beaches, also some quiet shingle areas.
Northumberland also has fantastic beaches, Whitley Bay is a popular family resort, and nearby Tynemouth is lovely and a bit quieter.

RoyTroyAndChris · 30/12/2021 16:26

Bembridge, Isle of Wight? The Isle of Wight in general has a similar feel to Littlehampton, I think.

itsgettingweird · 30/12/2021 16:41

I would avoid camber sands and Brighton. Very busy and noisy.

If it's beach you want I'd look further west at places such as south sea, lee on Solent and charmouth.

balalake1 · 04/01/2022 21:25

I'd agree that Brighton is not suitable for your DS. Does it have to be by the sea?

EndersGame · 17/01/2022 21:21

You could try Worthing or even Bognor if you really want to go to that part of Sussex. I live in Dorset and would support Swanage over Weymouth. Swanage is much quieter.

Eastbourne or Bexhill on Sea going the other way are "retirement" towns so would be quite than Brighton, which can be party central even in winter.

Good luck

Church Farm Haven holiday park is close to Bognor Regis and Pagham beach. I've not been so I don't know what it's like but it's a 20 min drive to Littlehampton if you want to go for a day trip.

There are some holiday sites near East Wittering your son might like. There are more shops at East Wittering than at Pagham and you can walk along the beach to West Wittering which has a huge beach. No fun fair or East Beach cafe though.
