How much for 2/3 bed holiday let during school holidays? And how far in advance to book?

DD will be starting school in September 2022. Looking ahead, how quickly do holiday lets book up during school holidays? Do I need to be thinking about booking for summer 2023 now for example?

Also, what would you expect to pay for a week in a decent 2-3 bedroomed holiday let in a rural area during school holidays? Seen one around the £1000 mark, would this be typical?

We’ve always been able to holiday “off peak” with DD in the past so it’s all new.

£1K is good for school holidays.
It’s shot up over the past 2 years due to not being able to travel.
I got a 3 bed place this year in woolacombe in early July for 1.7k.
It was expensive but very nice.

I usually pay around £500, but not in touristy places so cheaper.

I think a 2 bed for £1k is fine as long as you don’t want to go to the really popular destinations like St Ives or Lyme Regis - then you will probably need more

I'd be looking for summer 2022 now, not summer 2023. But covid might mess that up. I don't even know when summer holidays July 2023 start!
Your pricing seems in the right ballpark. We'd pay less but not go to the big tourist areas.

Many thanks for all the replies. I’ll start thinking about booking when I know DD’s term dates!

Depends where. Summer holidays I'd say £2k upwards. April and October / May I'd say £1,000.

We camp in the summer as the kids love it then spend the budget in May / April / October / December when the weather isn't nice and we want somewhere a bit more luxurious to dry off 🤣

I book a year in advance.

A lot places open their bookings a year in advance, so if you want to go back somewhere popular you rebook as soon as you get home from this year's holiday. There will usually be some availability well into the following spring, but if you have a particular destination or property in mind, or if it's a special festival week in your destination then best to book sooner.
For a 2 bed property in August, £1k is about right in touristy areas; but you'll pay more for beachside location or luxury property especially in the posh bits of Devon and Cornwall.

Camping is a great idea, though I also have baby twins (who’ll be toddling by the summer probably) so will wait until they’re older. Same reason we’re not considering going abroad for a few years!

We’re in Yorkshire so travelling to Cornwall etc is probably out of the question whilst the kids are so young, so it’ll be Scarborough/Brid most likely if going to the seaside. Or maybe the lakes at a push, though I think the traditional seaside towns will appeal more to DD.

We visited Blackpool recently but DD was underwhelmed by the illuminations!

Kids that age don't need anything fancy or to travel far, when my friend's kids were little and visited me their favourite thing to do was go on a double decker bus as they don't have them where they live!! The North East has some great countryside and beaches so I'd stuck fairly close to home. Avoid centre parcs unless you want to remortgage your house or get any random long weekends / in service type days that most schools don't have.
