With my DD10. Just us. Staying at Bathwick.

DD isn’t great at walking so thinking we’ll get buses around ( do have car though)

Bath Christmas market cancelled. Thinking afternoon tea and look around shops but apart from that a bit stuck for ideas and bit nervous tbh.

Any recommendations for an afternoon tea on the Saturday appreciated too!

The Roman Baths are done really well with audio tours and hologram displays and quite often human actors wandering about.

Cathpot · 15/11/2021 22:14

We also did glass blowing and a wander round the cathedral (two kids and a very very wet weekend)

1 royal crescent is interesting. (Think that's the right name for it)
Afternoon tea at the pump house.

I have long been to bath myself and regret not going into 1 bath crescent so that’s a good idea.

Pump room was one of the ideas for afternoon tea so thank you.

Roman Baths sound good.

I can’t do cathedral again ( too emotional recent bereavement ) but I like sound of glass blowing. Where was that please?

I think you can do horse drawn carriage tours around the town - be regency ladies for the afternoon! And there was an amazing hot chocolate place when I was there years ago - maybe Mrs Potts chocolate house?

Cathpot · 15/11/2021 22:53

It was a few years ago and we went and watched glass blowing and then the kids had a little turn

Is a really small city and Bathwick is really central so you will absolutely manage to walk if it's just a preference thing. Getting to the other side of town, e.g. Royal crescent is probably 15-20 min walk, but it would be very hard to get a bus even if you wanted to as they don't really cross the city as such. Parking is horrendous and traffic is worse.

You can use up lots of time just wandering around the nice shops I expect.

If you do the Roman baths book in advance. We went recently and they said you had to book in advance(only for that week but id still check just in case)

tootiredtobother · 15/11/2021 23:21

you have to book for 1 Bath Crescent, dont just rock up

Yes as a PP says, it's all very walkable. Lovely walk into town from Bathwick through Henrietta Park / down Great Pulteney Street / along the river, depending on where you're staying & heading.

Although the proper big market isn't on this year, there will be around 40 stalls in the Abbey area, and it will look all lovely and Christmassy. Also a light trail. Victorian carousel right outside the Roman Baths (which are expensive but really great) and Pump Rooms (possibly a good option for afternoon tea? They do kids themed ones in the holidays, not sure when their Christmas season starts).

The ice rink and glow-in-the-dark mini golf are next to each other and really festive and fun. Definitely need to book for all of this stuff!

The centre of Bath has a clean air zone, bus only gates and a horrible one way system. I'd leave the car behind.

There's the American Museum but it's on the outskirts by the University.

The Fashion Museum is in the basement of the Assembly Rooms.
If the weather is fine there is a massive park at Victoria Park or take a boat trip.

This all sounds fabulous you have inspired me to book a trip myself. Hope you have a lovely time
