Hello!

My husband and I are having 5 days in North Wales in June and wondered what places people recommend? I fancy Bodnant (sp?) Gardens and would love to go to Portmerion for the day. Is it worth it?

We love walks, castles, good food and enjoying trying any new activies.

TIA.

My favourite NW castle is caernarfon, closely followed by Conwy. Cant beat a great out in either having a look round the castle and then chippy tea on the sea front.

Portmeirion is probably worth it if you've never been before.

Llanberis is fab as a base for walking. You can trek up snowdon, or get a train up, or swim/kayak in the lagoons there (well worth a visit!!)

Bodnant is fine if you like gardens, but that's all it is really.

Beaumaris (on Anglesey) is a fantastic castle and the town is really pretty.

SwedishEdith · 11/11/2021 21:17

The Welsh Mountain Zoo is worth a trip and then fish and chips from Rhos-on-Sea chippy.

Conwy also lovely with, again, a great chippy outside the smallest house.

Any of the Go Below tours depending on ability www.go-below.co.uk/ but Ultimate Extreme was amazing. We found it much better than the ZipWorld and Bounce Below offerings which are a bit more polished (and far less value for money).

Penrhyn Slate Quarry near Bethesda has the fastest in the world, and the longest in Europe, zip line if you’re keen on new experiences.

Sosigsandwich · 12/11/2021 11:47

These are all brilliant suggestions thanks so much. Love the zip line and go below ideas!

The whole area is great, loads to see and do, Conwy / Llandudno is a great base not just for North Wales but Chester / Liverpool is under 90 mins drive, both are nice to visit.
Conwy is a must as its a well preserved medieval walled town, the walk around the walls is nice and free.
Bodnat is a short drive away its a spectacular garden, from memory lots of walking and not cheap but nice.
This stuff is all near Bodnant / Conwy

Aber Falls and Distillery is a great day out, it reminded us of Norway, its lower down this page

Llandudno is a very nice Victorian sea side town,
www.donthibernate.co.uk/route-1-llandudno-from-m62-m56/
Lots of good eating, its a short drive to Rhos on sea, a small place with a few restaurants and a nice beach, Angel bay to see the seals is well worth the short walk

When you go to Portmerion, its nice but we felt nothing special, you need to have a drive around the Llyn Peninsular, Llanbedrog, Criccieth Porth Dinellan etc are very nice and not commercialised.

Plenty to do in 5 Days
Some hidden gems
Bedgelert to see Gelert's grave
Fairy Glen, lovely riverside walk and a harder walk to the waterfalls, every one goes to the Swallow Falls in nearby Betws Y Coed, Fairy Glen is different but nice and not commercialised
The Toll Road around Llandudno's great orm, spectacular views.

No problem I doubt you will be disappointed, its a great often overlooked area.

Titsywoo · 13/11/2021 19:48

We had the most beautiful walk along the coast in Holyhead, Anglesey. We parked in the Breakwater Country Park car park and walked from there. Saw seals and dolphins in the water and the most amazing coastline I have ever seen!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/11/2021 19:54

There’s some great coasteering and gorge walking if that’s your kind of thing. We went with Anglesey Adventures last summer and can highly recommend them.

MrsDThomas · 13/11/2021 23:35

Definitely llanberis. Spend the day there. Walk round the lake, up the quarries. The waterfall, Dolbadarn castle, hire a boat on the lake, visit the quarry hospital, Pete’s Eat for food.

Funf · 15/11/2021 06:49

Dolbadarn castle has some spectacular views
Its number 15 here

We've stayed so many times in North Wales, we love it! Both as a couple and then as a family. There's loads of posts out there about things to do.

Portmeirion is beautiful and spectacular, and in June, it will be amazing. Visit Beddgelert too, and see Gelert's grave in the clearing. Also, one of our favourites it Bardsey isladn. But there are loads of ideas here:

The only thing I would say it that since covid, some places have closed or not re-opened and their google listing hasn;t been amended, so we always check by calling before hand, to see whats what.

Hope this heps you and have a great time!
