Liverpool - places to eat

PurpleSweetPeas · 25/10/2021 11:19

I had some amazing ideas from you lovely lot, of things to do in Liverpool for my Beatle mad husband and some great alternative ideas for me when I was planning his 50th birthday surprise earlier this year.
Time has flown and we go on Thursday - very excited.

Does anyone have recommendations for places to eat that won't break the bank. We will eat anything so no restrictions.

We have breakfast at the hotel so hoping to fill up until tea time with perhaps a snack in between.

Also open to any other ideas of places to go I might not have thought about. Think I've got The Beatles bit covered though. There's only so much I can take Confused At this point, the cheaper the better!

Almost Famous
Crazy Pedro’s
Yard and Coop
Down The Hatch
Pieminister

Ricekrispie22 · 25/10/2021 13:20

Also, I’d recommend Ghetto Golf

PollyWog · 25/10/2021 13:22

There are some lovely restaurants in Waterloo, just near the beach.

Jins · 25/10/2021 13:28

Casa Italia

LateToTheParty · 25/10/2021 13:51

Baltic Market

We were in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago and had a great time, so hope all goes well for you, OP!

We had a good Italian meal in Villa Romana, Wood Street, and a decent meal (guess the cuisine Grin) in The Greek Taverna in Bold Street. Neither broke the bank. Huge numbers of restaurants in that area. Liverpool seems well served for restaurants and cafes generally.

Places to go: If you're into museums and art, you can have a lovely time for no cost at all browsing the Walker Art Gallery, the Tate, Museum of Liverpool, Maritime Museum and probably a couple of others I've forgotten. The Anglican and Catholic cathedrals are both interesting to visit and there's no admittance charge to either of them. The Anglican cathedral has a nice tearoom. Just wandering around the Albert Dock area is also interesting. We thought about taking the ferry 'cross the Mersey, but settled for watching it come and go instead.

The river of lights display is on at the moment at the Albert Dock so wrap up warn and wander through there. There are lovely places to eat too, Miller and Carter is a favourite of mine but you certainly won't go hungry in Liverpool.

Lerpewl is really nice - it's the Barrie brothers - Ellis (I think!!) was on Great British Menu and I loved the Marram Grass when they had that.

DeJaDont · 25/10/2021 14:14

You need to go to the GPO (general post office) for sure. It's amazing. A big central dining area with lots of little kitchens serving all different types of food. It's BRILLIANT! They do a bottomless brunch for £30 each and you can try whatever you fancy from the huuuuge menu.

Bold street has plenty of really nice independent eateries too.

Sparkletastic · 25/10/2021 14:30

Mowgli. Each and every time.

iamme21 · 25/10/2021 14:38

Rudy’s for amazing pizza

Kdubs1981 · 25/10/2021 14:46

The main easting places are in Bold Street its the one with the Bombed out church at the top, of Lark Lane near sefton park, with have plenty of choice for all pockets
Laparilla in Bold street, big portions, spicy if you ask for it, just great, tasty filling food
Cheap Lunch, its basic sandwiches but tasty and filling

Its down a back street 2 mins walk for the big shops, usually very bust but quick service

We went recently. GPO is great for breakfast/brunch options. Also recommend Cowshed for dinner, great steaks and good service in a lovely (but not too pretentious) setting.

Hbh17 · 25/10/2021 20:37

Italian Club Fish, Bold St
The Quarter, near Anglican Cathedral
Lunya, Hanover Street
Bacaro, Castle Street

AdaColeman · 25/10/2021 20:40

If the weather is sunny, take the ferry trip, lovely!

PurpleSweetPeas · 25/10/2021 23:14

Thank you all so much. Some great ideas and I want to try them all!

Breakfast:brunch at Leaf on Bold street. It is genuinely gorgeous and always busy. A testament to how great it is

Cowshed is lovely for steak, book if you want to go because it's relatively small

Mowgli is outstanding but you can now visit one in lots of the bigger cities, so not "unique to Liverpool" if that's what you wanted

Cristakis is a Greek place and is fab. They have entertainment on at weekends too

My number one choice would be Baltic Market. So many different choices that everyone can have a bit of what the fancy. Always brilliant fun and loads of good bars (and ghetto golf) around it too. Don't be put off by the queue, it goes down fast!

Funf · 26/10/2021 07:53

Forgot about the Baltic not cheap but great place to see

I live here and by far the best restaurants are Etsu, il forno and roski (roski is super expensive). I’ve also got a soft spot for 60 hope street.

All the other recommendations on this thread are very nice but average. Casa Italia is the oldest restaurant but it’s honestly shit. Lunya is very good but the service is appalling.

ETSU is probably the most reasonably priced out of my recommendations and my all round favourite. Proper sushi and Japanese food 🤩

FETOCT2021 · 31/10/2021 18:14

Leaf on bold street is crap. It’s all hummus and hipsters

FETOCT2021 · 31/10/2021 18:16

Don’t go to ghetto golf 😅
