Manchester to Liverpool

Hello 👋

Staying a couple of nights in Manchester in the Premier Inn beside the Trafford Centre. Wanting to spend a day in Liverpool and was thinking of going by train to avoid the hassle of taking the car and get parking space. Could someone please advise which train station would be the nearest to us and it is a fairly inexpensive or expensive way to travel- would we be better just taking the car. It would be for 2 adults and 2 kids. Thanks 😊

@HarrietSchulenberg

If you decide to drive, avoid Liverpool One and Albert Dock unless you want to be bankrupt by the time you go home. I can't believe anyone actually parks there! My favourite cheapy is the Mount Pleasant car park where it's about £1.50/hour or £5 for over 3 hours. It's central, covered and busy albeit a concrete eyesore. Only faff is it shuts at 8pm. Can't advise on trains, sorry, but if I wanted hassle-free travel for that journey I'd drive.
I didn't know about this one and I live here! Am obv too reliant on taxis and dads taxi.

@rrhuth

All the people saying it will be 'easier to drive' - the OP said they want to get the train
And then asks if they would be better just taking the car

I live in Urmston and agree it's easier to drive but there is a trafford park stop on the same line as Oxford Rd, Urmston, Liverpool lime St. It's practically in Stretford though walkable from the trafford centre.

If you really want to train it I Agree with not going into town and getting a cab to Urmston. It'd be much cheaper than getting a tram for 4 into town. The train is going to cost a fortune for 4. Perhaps you have a family rail card. It would be much cheaper to drive and park. Its very quick and easy. I always feel like you come off the motorway and then the longest part of the drive is into Liverpool centre.

I recommend the TC high ropes whilst you're there for the dc. Much cheaper than the tree top nets and go ape ones.

Also tampopo is Asian fusion place in TC very good food and cocktails! Better than wagamamas.

My dc love yo sushi in selfridges then getting jelly belly sweets.

We also like Italian small plates place called pesto.

There was an all bar one which did a mean G&T if you fancied it.

The paradise golf inside the TC is better than the Dino golf which feels very traffic fumy right on the m60 and we found the golf very boring, not much crazy apart from the dinos.

It's only 40mins from Manchester Victoria to Liverpool like street, just need to bus or tram it to the city centre

Urmston station is on the line to Liverpool. Very easy.

We park here

Its a short walk on to Bold street with great eating and the bombed out church at the top of the hill
Some ideas here

Second Urmston station as the nearest to Trafford Center. An Uber will cost £4/£5 from there to TC. If you have a car but don't want to drive in to Liverpool, you can park at Flixton station for free. The train goes straight to Liverpool without any changes.

Thanks everyone, think we’ll be driving 🚗😊
