Reasonably priced afternoon tea in London?

If you were planning to go for afternoon tea in London, where would you go? Budget is up to about £50 a head. Can’t quite stretch to Claridges/the Dorchester! But would like to go somewhere nice - quality of food is more important than surroundings. Haven’t done this kind of thing for a long time and can only think of the Wolseley (and no idea if the food is good)! It’s for a special birthday so would really appreciate any recommendations. Smile

Starts at 50.00 . The queens fave hotel apparently and I’m sure princess Kathryn stayed here the night before marrying William . The royal connection may or may not put you off. But either way it’s a lovely hotel.

The Delaunay is really good and a lovely atmosphere.

Thank you all - some great ideas here - I’d completely forgotten about half of these and never heard of the others!

My favourite is The Wolesley (near the Ritz). It's a beautiful, glamorous cafe/restaurant rather than a hotel and has a great afternoon tea.

The Wellesley- it’s a 5* hotel next to an even posher hotel so it’s surprisingly reasonable but the food and service are fantastic, and the room they use is beautiful

Genuinely one of the best afternoon teas I've ever had! So much better than the Dorchester and half the price 😊

Ham yard hotel is great

The Wolseley is lovely. Really really good. Or try Fortnums. I personally don’t like the Goring - we were given whipped cream rather than clotted a few years back which ruined it for me.

With no exaggeration I would ask for my money back!

The Wolseley is lovely and very good value for afternoon tea.

The Montague on the Gardens does a lovely afternoon tea. It's in their beautiful conservatory, or if weather permits, in their garden. It's about £43pp (more if you want champagne).

I highly recommend No16 Kensington. The tea starts at £42. We took my aunt for a special birthday and it was lovely - completely charming!

Thank you again - some great ideas here. Am kind of hoping the timings for the Wolseley work for my friend as I’ve always wanted to go there.

The Goring looks great but no availability for our date, but the Rubens is equally convenient.

Thanks again, some fab ideas here!

@ISeeTheLight, I’m glad you mentioned the Montague as I saw it pop up in relation to a special offer and wondered what it was like!
