Martham, Norfolk

Heading to an air and b cottage in Martham tomorrow for 4 nights, 5 days (2 adults, 2 dogs), so far we have planned Horsey Beach, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. Any places worth missing. Might be worth adding I am a keen landscape photographer, so any sights of beauty, quirky buildings etc would be welcome information.
Thank you

Burgh Castle is lovely - it's the remains of a Roman Fort with views over Broadland. No charge but no facilities either but is very close to Great Yarmouth if you're heading there.
Norwich is also fab and has loads of very old and quirky buildings.

mrwalkensir · 05/09/2021 21:48

don't forget the airbase....

hugoagogo · 05/09/2021 21:51

The air base is Marham, not Martham (or Marsham; aren't Norfolk place names fun?) Grin

You've probably got enough to do for 4 days, otherwise you will be on the road the whole time!

Brilliant, thank you. I'll make sure I fit both of those into the trip

Horsey windmill makes a nice photo. If youre heading to Horsey Beach, you might as well wander up to Sea Palling as well. Lowestoft is quite a trek.

The walk alongside the river from Martham Staithe to Potter Heigham is also quite nice (lovely fish and chip shop by the bridge in Potter too).

Happisburgh (hayseburg) has a great lighthouse. There’s also a few windmills around there and inland towards Cley.
We stayed in Sea Palling (Sea Pauling) in the summer. Was a great base for being in the middle of nowhere.

mrwalkensir · 06/09/2021 00:43

oh blimey - yes - quite a way apart too!

Nice walk alongside Martham Broad. Hire a day boat on the Broads. We hired for 3 hours from Sutton Staithe and went up to How Hill. Lots of photo opportunities on the Broads

Try gorleston, just south of great yarmouth. Much less commercial, lovely walk along the cliffs looking down or along the promenade. Theres a cafe half way along the prom. Not sure if you can take the dogs on the beach yet but i think you can at the south end. The pier hotel also has outdoor seating overlooking the beach where you could stop with dogs.

Hi, we did a walk along the cliffs last night at gorleston which was lovely and took some great pics.

Wells next the sea is gorgeous, I love Sea Palling too, breezy though! Enjoy, Martham a lovely village, driven through there many times. Have a lovely holiday.
