We are staying outside brixham, and not been to the area for many many years

Can anyone recommend family friendly things to do and good beaches ?

Thanks

I'd definitely do a boat trip - but on a sunny day if you can (can be chilly).
Dartmouth Steam Railway if you're into trains goes from Paignton. WW2 artillery storage Brixham Battery is worth a look - underground tunnels. That's not far to walk to Fishcombe Cove or Churston Cove which are both a not far walk from there, both shallow pebble beaches but less crowded.

Personally I like St Mary's Bay or Broadsands which are also less populated than the main Piagnotn/Preston/Goodrington beaches, but if you get there before 10.30am or so (as it gets busy) it's worth a trip to Oddicombe Beach at Babbacombe just to go down on the quaint vernacular railway - cafe there is very busy but very good. Suggest park in Princes Street and walk across The Downs to get there. Can recommend the crab rolls at the Buccanneer Inn just at the Downs end of Princes Street. Babbacombe Model Village is a delight, well worth a visit, the grounds are beautifully kept and always lots to see, has a good cafe.
Ansteys Cove, also that side of Torquay is a hidden delight, very nice cafe (which I believe is run by the same people who own Me & Mrs Jones in Wellswood which is my favourite place for breakfast out, opens 8.30).

@Ariela some good suggestions there. Sounds like you're a local.

It depends how long you are staying and what you're in to. You can travel on an open top bus around the bay (weather permitting) or drive round to Torquay There are some very interesting Caves at Kents Cavern in which prehistoric bones were found. Torquay Museum has excellent displays, the Greenhouse at Torre Abbey meadow has brilliant info about poisonous plants (the basis for some of Agatha Christie's stories), the displays at the Spanish Barn are good to see, especially if it's bit damp and windy outside.
Hope that helps

oh and I didn't mention beaches...Well there are so many - some are pebbly some are sand. Goodrington, Torre Abbey Sands, Broadsands (my fav as it is adjacent to a pitch and putt course with fab views across the Bay), Preston, Paignton all have sandy beaches. Meadfoot is good if you're into paddleboarding etc
