Half term England city break

I am looking for a bit of inspiration. I would like to take my DS (7) away for a half term city break. I had been thinking of Edinburgh but with covid I think it's probably sensible to remain in England just so I only have one jurisdictions covid regulations to manage so I am having a rethink.

For context, previous city breaks have been London and York both of which we loved. We are looking for something with a bit of history (love a good castle/cathedral/Roman ruin), a bit of culture, something fun and different and good pizzas are essential (although it would be nice to have something else occasionally as well!).

We live on the east coast main line (or thereabouts) but not too far from London so fairly connected - would prefer to train than drive but can drive, it's just parking is always a bit of a nightmare in cities in my experience.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

In October we’re going to Birmingham to do the Legoland discovery centre www.legolanddiscoverycentre.com/birmingham/ Jurassic exhibition www.birminghambotanicalgardens.org.uk/events/jurassic-encounters/ and Cadbury World which is apparently quite easy to get out to by train. It’s also possible to get the train to Warwick which takes about half an hour, and from the station it’s a mile to the Castle.

Also remembered that the Think Tank is on our itinerary.

I agree with Bath, the Roman baths are stunning. There’s also a fun open top bus tour with audio guide and lots of places to look around. Victoria Park is also good for a 7 year old! It’s a beautiful city
