A week in North Norfolk

We are going for a week near Cromer. I am so overwhelmed because I've been doing my research on the North Norfolk coast and there looks so much to squeeze into a week.

Could anyone help me plan the week? How long would you spend at each place? We have national trust passes and are a family of four, with two children under 10.

We've been going to North Norfolk for years, since our boys were little and had every kind of weather. Favourites include:

Sheringham and Sheringham Park (NT) + Poppy line steam train
Cromer Pier and lifeboat station
Walk in the gardens at Felbrigg Hall (NT)
Muckleburgh collection (tanks)
Blakeney - walk out along the marshes to Cley
Wells-next-the-Sea
Beach at Holkham (a bit of a walk from the car park but worth it)

Blickling and Felbrigg - both nearby and NT. Blickling more impressive and has the Anne Boleyn link. Felbrigg, smaller but also lovely. I wouldn't say either was spectacular for under 10s really. Belton House (nr Grantham) has an amazing playground and it puts all other NT in the shade as far as kids stuff goes.

Seal watching trip from Blakeney.

Wells Beach/Holkham is world-class - absolutely stunning (google it). Miles of golden sand and the pinewood forest behind. Magical. Car park fills up early (by 9.30) so worth getting there early.

North Norfolk Railway - Sheringham to Holt - great for train fans.

West Runton is mentioned for rock pooling a lot - we were very underwhelmed. The poor car park experience might have added to the underwhelm (man at kiosk demands cash only - even though there is a pay by app option - he got very aggressive with us; it was unpleasant and the place itself wasn't worth such aggravation). Hopefully you'll have a better time if you go there.

Lots of walking and beaches. You'll have a great time - we're just back from Blakeney.

Boat trip round Blakney Point to see the seals. Lots from Morsten Quay.

There's a miniature train running between Wells and Walsingham.

Pensthorpe is lovely for a day.

There is an amazing beach at Horsely Gap where seals sit in the water just off the beach. I was there a couple of weeks ago and there were about 15 in the water. One one the beach the following day. There’s a tea and snack van. Well worth a visit.
There’s also the Sea life centre at Hunstanton, Norfolk Lavender has good play areas, Sandringham, Holkham Hall and feeding the deer at Snettisham. We like Mundesley for the beach. I’ve heard Holkham beach is beautiful. Norwich is a lovely city and they have Dippy the dinosaur there at the minute. There’s also a dinosaur hunt around the city.

We had a lovely day out in Wroxham last week. Hired a boat from Wroxham Boat Hire for 4 hours ( do this in advance) and meandered around the broads for the afternoon. Wandered around the town afterwards and had some lovely chips and scraps from the chippy. Great day out.

We stayed in Sheringham and it is a lovely little village with a national trust place (Sheringham Park)

See my thread, OP - some very helpful suggestions on there too.

Roar!! Dinosaur theme park outside Fakenham is great! Dinosaurs, high ‘rope’ metal thing and a splash park. Our 7& 10 loved it last year.

Don't forget crabbing at Blakeney or Wells.

cloudjumper · 20/08/2021 10:29

Go to BeWilderwood, it's awesome, the kids will love it.

@Spudina mentionec Horsey Gap. We were there at 5pm a couple of days ago and the beach was covered in seals, adults and pups. We watched them for an hour. Park at the Horsey Gap car park, walk onto the beach, turn right and walk up the beach for about 10 minutes and there they are. It was magical! The end of the pier show at Cromer Pavilion Theatre is fab too. It's not normally my thing but I booked it after reading all the amazing reviews on Trip Advisor and it was worth every penny.

jackstini · 23/08/2021 22:37

Agree Bewilderwood is fab

Rest depends on what they love - boats, animals, trains, crabbing...

Beautiful part of the country Smile
