Pushchair on Red Funnel Ferry

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has travelled to the Isle of Wight with a car on the Red Funnel Ferries and knows if it is possible to use a pushchair whilst on the boat?

I know we have to get out of the car and go up to the passenger lounge / deck whilst the ferry is moving but can’t find info anywhere on whether we will have time to unload the pushchair for our little one who will be 11 months old, and then if it is possible to get it up on to the deck without too much messing around?

Ideally I would just use a carrier but she is huge (already the size of an average 18 month old at 9 months) and I am tiny so carrying her for any length of time becomes painful quite quickly!

Hi, we were on red funnel yesterday. I didn't see any pushchairs but there are a LOT of very steep steps. There is a lift, but on both of our outbound and inbound crossing we got a text the day before to say the lift was out of order. We did then change our inbound ferry time and the lift seemed to be working though (must have been a different boat).

I'd say that if you can carry up the pushchair and baby separately then you could take it but otherwise you're going to struggle. There really isn't much space on board though to move around so nowhere really to push her. You couldn't push her in it between the rows of cars as the gaps are very small. feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

If you tell them when you arrive they will put you in a lane that allows you easy access to the lifts and enables you to open your doors wide enough to get everything out. I have done it a few times now and they are really helpful. They ask you to put your hazard lights on so the people directing you on the boat know where to put you.

The first time I was on my own and worried to how I would manage to get the kids upstairs but they were really helpful and the space was right by the lift.

I always wondered why some people put their hazard lights on Grin

Thank you for the replies, really helpful! Feel like I know a lot more about what we will need to do now…

Sounds as though preparing to use muscle to climb the stairs with her and heading for the nearest seat might be the easiest option but will speak to them on arrival and see what they say.

I also now won’t be freaked out wondering why people have their hazard lights on either 😂
