Spending money for a week in Cornwall?

Two adults, no children.
Campsite is already booked and paid for.
We want to do beaches, at least one meal out per day, potentially Eden project and not really sure what else - haven’t planned it out yet. Will also have a few drinks of the evening.
Staying around 15 mins from Newquay, but also might do a day trip or two out to somewhere else.
I know it’s a “how long is a piece of string” question, but roughly how much spending money would you take if you were us? X

Wow I think 150 - 200 sounds like loads!!!

As a family of 4 we probably normally spend up to about £100 on average I would say and we drink a lot! We don't particularly budget but have a few holidays a year so never really save up and really treat ourselves either.

Loads of free / cheap things to do e.g. beach, walks, BBQ back at the tent etc.

We would probably eat out 5 times in a week, combination of nice and cheap and cheerful. Tend not to do paid attractions so much because we have the dog and they are normally not allowed.

You get tickets for the Eden project (and other attractions) using Tesco vouchers. Also the Blue reef aquarium in Newquay.

Tesco vouchers

Definitely book stuff ASAP
We are just back from Cornwall
Probably spent about £250 a day
We got fab weather so didn't do a lot of paid activities but I refuse to cook on holiday so we eat out every night (and a lot of lunch times ) and with 2 almost adult children we easily spend £150/200 on meals

Watapalava · 07/08/2021 21:32

Genuine question but if you’re spending that why wouldn’t you go abroad and guarantee weather?!

I’ve just come back from 10 days in Ibiza with tui

5 star all inclusive plus flights transfers for family of four inc two teens

It cost £2700 inc all tests for four of us too

Why on earth spend 200 per day plus accommodation for it to rain all week that’s crazy!

CosmicComfort · 07/08/2021 21:51

We are just back from a week away, not Cornwall but 2 adults. I think we probably spent about £1000, eating lunch and evening meal out and no activities. Spent time walking and doing English heritage places that we have passes for.

We booked all restaurants a month before we went and even then, one place was fully booked. You do need to be organized and spontaneity has gone out of the window this year🥺

TBF we got fab weather and I don't want to fly at present
Appreciate we could have paid less abroad

user1487194234 · 07/08/2021 22:52

We tried all incisive once, but it's not for us

Just got back from a fortnight in Newquay. 100% book your restaurants at least a week in advance. You will not get in anywhere unless you’re booked. A typical day for us (two people, no kids) was a coffee and a bun each, an ice cream, three beers each, and dinner. We did the Eden project (not worth the cost) and Tintagel. We spent £1600 in that fortnight.

£1600?! Omg why? We ate out in a gorgeous rustic restaurant at the top of Ibiza town overlooking the harbour and it was €60 for 4 of us

Why are people paying so much for uk

I wouldn’t go to Cornwall if all in it cost over £1000

Tui right now are selling family of four holidays (teens) to Spain for £900!

Out of curiosity, just typed in our September dates into Tui. Can’t find any all-inclusive, but there are several B and B, or self-catering for around £1000. My UK holiday for the same week costs around the same.

However, the thought of hanging around an airport then sitting on a plane deters me. Plus you know where you are in the UK. Mind you, we’ve had such a wet, grey summer, the sunshine would be tempting!

I couldn’t agree more, on top of that £1600 was the hotel, which cost £1800. Tui cancelled our planned AI holiday to Cyprus, which had cost far less, and for reasons I won’t bore you with we didn’t want to go anywhere else abroad at the time, so Cornwall it was.

We’ve now booked to go to Lanzarote in three weeks, fingers crossed this one actually happens.

Lulu1919 · 08/08/2021 08:40

I'd book some places to eat if I were you ....the days of just turning up are on the way out !!

SheABitSpicyToday · 08/08/2021 08:44

Cornwall is pretty much fully booked until September now for restaurants. Been trying to find somewhere for my mums birthday meal for weeks now and can’t get in anywhere.

GoWalkabout · 08/08/2021 08:44

Like others, this seems like a lot of spends to me. For context we are good joint income no mortgage. That would be double or triple the price of the holiday accommodation for us. We would take picnic lunches out most days, go out twice for food, do one 'pricier' activity. We're not big drinkers, but wine with dinner at home is cheap anyway. We do want to spend a bit locally to make up for the locals having to put up with us. For two of us I would estimate £400 pw.

Bumpsadaisie · 08/08/2021 08:58

£200 a day sounds astronomical!

We're a family of four - we get a supermarket delivery which is the same as the cost of our usual weekly shop, we are NT members so that's free.

We will do NT houses, paddle boarding at the beach and biking at a forest park (own bikes).

We would eat out once - Wagamama's say, maybe £80 and then it would just be coffees and ice creams for the kids. Lunches would be a roll fruit and biscuits that come in the shopping order.

Probably £250 for the week?

user1487194234 · 08/08/2021 09:05

Fair enough if that's the way you want to do it
I want to splash out a bit and make it different from being at home

rosie1959 · 08/08/2021 09:20

As some have said we don’t take an amount of spending money probably £500 cash the rest on cards. We never go self catering as for two it’s often more expensive than a hotel. If we book B&B would expect £70 to £100 a night for meals and drinks plus extras during the day so around £200 a day
