DC2 and I are going tomorrow for a few days (DC playing in sport competition in Morecambe, LA4 postcode).

We are B&B in the hotel (LA1 postcode) so would love some recommendations please for eating out. Not mega ££ and nothing fancy needed please although I don't mind paying ££ one evening for something special. We'll have the car so location we can be flexible.

Thanks in advance

Loads of lovely options in Lancaster (if you are staying in Lancaster you will want to stay in Lancaster at night)

Just depends what kind of food you like, it's a small university town so the standard is generally quite high as reputation is everything. I've never had a bad meal at the White Cross, Simply French, The Quarterhouse or The Sun. but there's loads of others that are great too.

There's a few good places in Morecambe too (The Midland and the Black Stone Thai) but it's just not worth the travel through from Lancaster if you don't need to.

The Royal at Heysham, The Morecambe Hotel and Atkinson’s Fish and Chips

Please may I ask another Morecambe question?

I’d love to swim in the sea while I’m here. Is there a good place to go?

It's an estuary

So not really. Sorry

The Morecambe hotel is good.

You can swim in the sea @TheCumbrian, anywhere on the prom, it’s becoming very popular for wild swimming but it’s very tidal so check when high tide is.

Sorry, I'm not going to recommend anyone unfamiliar with the estuary tides to go swimming in it.

It's not a beach as most people know it, it's a tidal estuary with quicksand and mud.

Experienced wild swimmers perhaps, but not day trippers wanting a swim/paddle in the sea.

Plus with the pollution leak further up the river I'm not sure anyone should be swimming in it anyway at the moment.

Half moon bay in nearby Heysham or by the bay cottage playpark. You could also try near the midland hotel, across from Aldi

@Happytodayhappytomorrow is your DC a golfer??

Please do not swim in the sea at Morecambe or anywhere around the Bay. It’s massively tidal and with deep channels to catch you unawares. Remember the Chinese cocklepickers ?

LadyCatStark · 27/07/2021 19:29

Fab 😊 good luck to her!

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 28/07/2021 07:58

Thank you. Are you and your DD here too?

Thanks for the advice. I always ask the locals before swimming anywhere and would never swim without positive replies and support.
I remember the cockle pickers well sad]

No I have a DS, I just saw something about car parking on the Happy Mount Park FB page and thought that it’s not often we have English championships going on in Morecambe!

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 29/07/2021 19:06

Indeed Smile. And Morecambe GC people were wonderful. So welcoming, helpful, friendly, encouraging and lovely.
