Spending a few days in Edinburgh soon with ds who is 14 months old. We're staying v close to Princes St. and will be without a car. Any tips on places which do good, healthy food for toddlers? (Anywhere with a play area would be a bonus). Also any advice on good places to visit would be much appreciated.

Yeah go to Waverley station and get a train to Glasgow

lol Leisel.

okay I am thinking.... Have you looked on the local area thingy that mumsnet have?

You have to Zoo, soft-play at Commonwealth Pool - both busable.

go to the Zoo I meant.

Did you know they have baby penguins just now [cute].

Oh and they should have the fair in princes Street Gardens just now.

Botanic Gardens is walkable from Princes Street - the cafe has just been done up so I think they now have a wee play area for kids and the food is nice: www.rbge.org.uk/

John Lewis (in St James Centre, East End Princes Street) has a great parenting room for nappy changing etc.

Browns, West End of George Street is baby friendly www.browns-restaurants.com/

To get a play area you could head down to Ocean terminal (there are buses from Princes Street - I think even one of the tour buses heads down there) - on the top floor is a Mollys Playcentre www.oceanterminal.co

Hope that helps?

www.kidsedinburgh.com - might give you some more ideas - you can search for events by age
Looks like Santa is at the Botanics - may have to head down there myself!!

PS - Zoo is great!

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone.

I'll check out the various websites later when ds is not around, otherwise any attempt to use the net turns into a wrestling match for control of the mouse!

Liesel- don't worry, we're visiting Glasgow too. We'll be staying with friends there, so they've got the things to do covered I hope!
