I’m looking to book 2 nights in October so wanting somewhere not too far a drive so we can spend a Sunday at Alton Towers. Plan is to drive from home to the hotel on the Saturday. Sunday in the park and drive home on the Monday.

Can anyone suggest anywhere decent for two adults and a teenager. Preferably somewhere that has an onsite place for dinner at night?

How to you feel about woodland cabins with hot tubs? We've had a few lovely trips here...

We've stayed in Leek a couple of times for Alton Towers as it's only a 20 minute drive and it's a lovely little market town. I think it now has a Premier Inn, however we stayed at great little hotel called The Peak Weavers, very near the town centre, the food in the hotel restaurant was excellent and used local ingredients. We've also stayed at a hotel in Rudyard, situated on a beautiful lake, if I recall it wasn't overly expensive.

Just book a premiere inn or similar in the nearest town, what direction are you coming from? We've stayed in uttoxeter and been to Alton towers then National arboretum next day. They usually have attached restaurants but do check especially travellodges, I have taken croissants etc in the past instead when there's no place for breakfast

We stayed at the Derby Mickleover, which is about 30 mins away. They have family rooms, the food was good and there's a pool which my kids loved. There's also a decent sized Tesco about five mins drive from the hotel too.

I wouldn't look past the Alton Towers hotel for the on site benefits of early entry and the mono rail. They have a couple of restaurants I think, the secret garden was nice when we went. It also has fun theming and a talking lift. And a water park for your half day when you arrive if you so wish. Last time we went we stayed at splash landings which is the cheaper hotel and it was definitely a but ropey but the main hotel is nice, or was a couple.of years ago..

We stayed in the Sarah Jane apartment at Heywood Hall. It’s self catered and there isn’t a restaurant onsite, but that was OK for us because we ate at Thorpe Park and stayed until closing time (9pm), and on the day that we arrived we ate at the pub literally 2 minutes walk down the road from Heywood Hall.
We had breakfast at the apartment apart from the last day when we walked to a farm shop cafe. It was handy having a fridge to store packed lunch items and a freezer for ice packs.

Go early on the Saturday and spend two days in Alton towers. I believe the ticket allows you in for 2 days... or used to.

I'd stay either at the Alton Hotel or at the nearest Premier Inn.

Thanks everyone.

We are coming from Scotland so could do Saturday but we’d rather take out time coming down the motorway and just have a really good Sunday and invest in passes if we have to.

I’m looking at either the premier inn or the holiday inn express in Stoke. Both just off the M6 so easy access and plenty eateries around. Chain stuff, nothing fancy but ok for a couple of nights.

Also going to look at the other recommendations on here too.

We recently stayed at the Premier Inn at Trentham Gardens Stoke. Frankie and Bennie's across the road and another restaurant. Also an outdoor shopping area with cafes and takeaways.

I'd also stay on the Alton towers hotel to get the benefit of early entry to the theme park.

Definitely the Alton Towers Hotel, I prefer it to Splash Landings.
