Hunstanton?

My experience of north Norfolk is nearly as limited as my budget, I think I have found decent accommodation, would really appreciate info on the resort/ area .

It looks a bucket and spade type of place, which is fine, just never have heard of anyone going there.

We've been quite a few times. It's a really nice place. It doesn't seem quite as commercial as some other resorts. There isn't too much to do if it's wet but there is a Sealife Centre.
Where are you thinking of staying ?

Lovely beach! Perfect if the weather is good

Glorious. A quick drive down to Holkham and that is lovely too. Cley next the sea, etc. Lovely area

How funny, I just came across it as we're staying fairly nearby in August and I saw a few mentions of the beach. Looks nice, will probably pop down for a day trip. We're staying a bit further north west, probably 40 mins away.

Beach is nice (Old Hunstanton beach in walking distance is great), nice little town with some good places to eat and drink. Lots of lovely villages further round the coast Thornham, Brancaster, Brancaster Staithe, Holkham and Wells Next The Sea. You’ll have a great time.

Hunstanton is the scruffier, downmarket part of North Norfolk, hence the lower cost. I liked it when I was a child, when I was happy with the beach and fast food and crappy amusements, but I don’t like it now.

craigsgirlfriend · 06/07/2021 23:44

It's old fashioned, the nicest beaches are in Old Hunstanton. Lots to drive to nearby - Sandringham has a new adventure playground that's free, lots of country pubs. Not masses to do in Hunstanton in evening. Tends to get a lot of visitors from Midlands and North.

Very reassuring comments. The accommodation is in the town ( holiday let), I guess I better not hang around and get it booked!

There are a lot of seal colonies and you can take a little boat and go and see them close up. Quite fun if you like that sort of thing or have kids.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 07/07/2021 00:19

We live about as far from the coast as you can get and whenever we’d drive to the seaside Hunstanton is where we’d go. Haven’t been for a while now the kids are older, but for a family holiday it will be fab. Perfect beach, amusements, Ice creams, mini golf etc

Have a lovely time.

The beach nearest town isn’t great, stony before you get to the sand, and at high tide the sea comes right up to the (ugly, concrete) prom. The best beach is at old Hunstanton which is about 2 miles away.

We’ve been a few times. We stay in a caravan park in new Hunstanton and embrace the cheesiness. Our 7yo loves the fair.

I’d recommend the Wash Monster. It’s an old amphibious landing vehicle which is now used for tours of the bay.

If you don’t want to worry about parking in other places, a bus goes between Hunstanton and Wells-Next-the-Sea.

The fish and chip shop behind the fair is really good.

Watch the sunset too- Hunstanton faces west.

Used to go to "Sunny Hunny" as a kid every summer - I second all the suggestions above.

Dad once took us on New Year's Eve for some bizarre reason (it was a 2 hour drive!) - there were gale force winds that shot some poor seagull into a lamppost whereupon it instantly died and fell in front of us in a sea of feathers and blood. It was only at that point that dad admitted that maybe a 2 hour drive to the beach in the depths of winter wasn't his best decision. We stuck to summer after that.

Thanks for the great tips, the new adventure playground at Sandringhan and The Wash Monster sound right up our street!

I grew up a day trips distance from there. We used to nick name it Funstanton lol.

There are some great things around that coast for families.
