Visiting in a few weeks and really want to make the most of our time there, so trying to work out the best places to book for meals and day trips. Any suggestions please? We are foodies but have children if that’s important?

Eat at Britannia Shellfish at Beesands, also the pub in Chillington does excellent food. There’s a lovely mini steam train on the quay in Kingsbridge, which kids enjoy (but it’s a bit random on opening times). The steam train from Kingswear is also nice, you can park in Dartmouth’s and get the ferry over to the Kingswear station. Blackpool Sands is a sandy beach with a nice river to play in as well as the sea, if the weather is good it’s a lovely place to spend a day.

If you are spending the day on the beach near Salcombe I would recommend taking the ferry over the estuary to the East Portlemouth side and using the beaches on that side because they're west facing and keep the sun all afternoon. Millbay has a stream running down it that kids spend all day damming. Hope Cove (Salcombe side) has load of seaweed. Burgh Island is worth a visit purely to see the art deco hotel.
Hallsands is mainly a village that was swept away by the sea. There's a nature reserve at Torcross but the beach is steep and shingle (it's where the forces practiced the D Day landings). The far end of Torcross beach is a nudist beach.

In Salcombe visit Cranches sweetshop (it's been there over 100 years).
I love that part of the world. I've been going there on and off since the 1970's ( as a child back then)

Again really helpful thank you. I’m a total Agatha Christie but and totally forgot about Burgh island!

If you like Agatha Christie, then Greenway is a must. But don’t park on the foreshore.

Gara Rock Hotel (v posh and expensive) has a restaurant (quite posh but not too expensive) with stunning coastal views, and a path down to the most perfect sandy/rocky cove, with a little stream.

Thank you! Really appreciate the recommendation
