Quietest Theme Park?

We will be travelling to England from NI by ferry and car on the 2nd week of July. We haven't planned a route yet but plan to do quite a few stops and travel all over. Travelling with 3 kids 8,9,13

Was hoping to go to Drayton Manor or Chessington but not so sure now as have heard they are really busy, I thought they wouldn't be very busy as schools in England don't break off until the end of the 3rd week!

Which of the 2 would be less busy or any other suggestions welcome, I looked at flamingo land and light water valley but don't seem as appealing. We have done Alton Towers and Legoland before.

Drayton would be less busy, in my view.

Leicester and Leicestershire schools break up on the 9th July so that is likely to mean that the second week of July is busier at Drayton depending on your actual dates

idontlikealdi · 24/06/2021 16:35

We
Did Chessington at half term. Don't do it would be my advice.

There are no quiet theme parks!

LoopTheLoops · 24/06/2021 16:36

None will be quite imo

Chiffandbip · 24/06/2021 16:41

We found Paultons Park so spacious that even though busy it didn’t feel unpleasant. It is far down the doubts of England though.

Chiffandbip · 24/06/2021 16:42

South not doubts!

We went to Thorpe park over half term and it was crazy busy. The rides are great, but your 8 and 9 year old might not be tall enough for the rides the 13 year old would want to go on and there really isn’t time to do everything when it’s that busy.

I doubt any other theme parks are much different. Even Paignton zoo was the busiest I’ve ever seen it over half term!

bringadish · 24/06/2021 18:26

"Theme park" and "Quiet" don't really go hand in hand do they?!

ShiningGonnaShine · 24/06/2021 21:34

We're going to Chessington mid-week in July before the schools break up and we're hoping it's going to be fairly quiet, based on our experience of going on a Monday in term time last September (which was dreamily quiet). I'm hoping I'm not being naive about this 😅.

Scottish schools are off then so I would expect places to be busy anyway. More people than every are remaining in the UK for holidays.

Vanishun · 24/06/2021 21:51

People are so desperate to get out and do stuff, theme parks are rammed. A friend queued for two hours for a ride at Alton Towers the other day. They also asked people to wear masks on the ride but not the queues, which seems a bit pointless.

RampantIvy · 24/06/2021 23:36

Everywhere is going to be busy.

You say you haven't planned a route yet. Does this mean you have no accommodation booked?

emmathedilemma · 25/06/2021 10:48

Scottish schools are finishing today if they haven't already finished, independents will be finish in early July and everyone is pretty stuck on this small island so I can't see anywhere being anything like close to quiet. Not having a route planned and therefore I'm guessing no accommodation booked yet would concern me more!

Mumdiva99 · 25/06/2021 10:59

What about something based at a beach? Blackpool pleasure beach or Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach or Pleasurewood Hills (Lowestoft) - and there are many others around the coast. There is Crealys near Exeter. Or the Gullivers brand - Matlock, Milton Keynes or Warrington. Twin Lakes in Melton Mowbray.

As someone up thread alluded - the hotels are getting very booked up - so you would be advised to plan a route, book accomodation and then find some where close to where you are going. There are lots of options that aren't Merlin run.

Depends on where you're crossing the Irish Sea. If you were coming over via Scotland I'd suggest Strathclyde Park near Motherwell. Its small but you can camp there.
In South west England there's the pier at Weston Super Mare which has rides and just along the coast is Brean. Also small and you wouldn't need more than a day there.
