Looking at Cambridge for a few days away. It looks nice, am I right? Also, what would anyone recommend doing?

It’s one of my favourite cities.
As cliched as it is, definitely go punting. It’s got lots of unique shops and every single high street shop that exists, so you could easily spend half a day checking them out. Ditto for cafes and restaurants. The walk along the river to Grantchester and back is well worth doing. There’s a nice tearoom and a famous pub In Grantchester but the walk in itself is lovely. If you go by car, I’d also recommend driving out to Anglesey Abbey and Wicken Fen.

It's been years since I lived in Cambridge but if it's still going the Pint Shop is good for dinner. It's a kind of modern gastropub in the city centre. Food's excellent.

Fitzbillies is a bit of a local legend, good for breakfast and cakes/afternoon tea.

I am from Cambridge and still live here- Botanic Gardens is lovely and has a nice cafe. If you let me have more information about if you have kids with you etc I can suggest some places to visit/eat

It is lovely, I've been here 20 years.
It's back to pre-pandemic levels of busy at weekends in the town centre, fine if you like the hustle and bustle. Just not the peaceful, strolling along ancient streets experience some might imagine Smile

Live here and would be open to a house swap?

HeartZone · 22/06/2021 17:24

Punting definitely

Walk along the Cam to the Orchard Tea Garden in Grantchester.
Stay/eat/drink at the University Arms.
Kettle's yard and Fitzwilliam museum if you fancy a bit of art.

Pint Shop definitely still going. If the weather is good, get a drink from The Mill and sit outside by the river, with a picnic from Sainsbury’s. I don’t think you can go into the colleges at the moment, but have a walk along the Backs to see the famous view of Kings College Chapel

If you’ve got a few more days I’d agree with the suggestions of Anglesey Abbey and Wicken Fen, or drive or get the train up to Ely, visit the Cathedral and Toppings bookshop.

Again not sure if they’re open, but if you have kids the Zoology Museum and earth sciences museum can be fun, neither take that long and there’s dinosaurs and stuffed animals

astonvanilla it's just two adults. During our trip I guess we'd just like to potter, taking in river and other nice views, university buildings, eating out and possibly museums. Any recommendations appreciated.

Looks like we're definitely goingGrin

Lots of museums but check individual web pages as opening hours have changes due to covid. This is a good start www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g186225-Activities-c49-Cambridge_Cambridgeshire_England.html

There are lots of places to eat out- Quayside is a nice area with some outdoor seating at the restaurants and is right next to the river.

A chauffeur driven punt is a must- you can grab snacks and drinks to take on board.

Any other questions please shout. Have fun!

If you have the time, only 20 minutes by train to Ely, stunning cathedral. Agree about the Fitzwilliam Museum.
