Holiday cottage firm saying we need to scan QR code for covid on arrival?

We have just made the payment for a holiday cottage and got the details of key pick up etc through.

On the email it states "Please be aware it is now legislation for you to scan the QR code provided in your holiday home on arrival. You can do this easily using your NHS COVID 19 App. If you do not have a smart phone, you will be required to share the contact details of your party with the property owner on arrival. This is required for the Government track and trace scheme and all members of the party who are over 16 need to comply with this."

I'm slightly confused as to why we would have to do this - the accommodation is a self contained cottage?

I get that in a pub/restaurant etc they might want that but in a separate cottage that we will exclusively occupy for a week?

Or is it just there to cover them for insurance purposes and the fact that someone doesnt do it wont be noted (how can it be noted?)

I dont object to doing it but will have to download the NHS track and trace app which I havent done so far as I havent needed to - I just dont see the need to do so in this case.

Because you are sharing the cottage with other people presumably. We had the same at a hotel last night, it was only me and my husband. Man on reception pointed out that many people share hotel rooms with people they don’t know that well!

I don’t have the app so just give my phone number when asked.

If they’ve cleaned the house before you and they turn out to have symptoms, if someone visits to turn on the boiler etc etc.

It’s something venues are told to do and it’s no hardship.

Check the legislation.

It says you DON'T have to, if you provide contact details instead. Presumably they have that from your booking anyway if it's just your nuclear family on the trip.

How would they know whether you'd done it or not?

Indeed, zafferana

This thread reminds me I need to book a massage. The masseuse tells everyone her "card reader is broken." I'm convinced she either doesn't have one or doesn't want to pay the fees. Empty words to tick govt boxes.
