Bakewell, Derbyshire

Has anyone stayed here? I'm looking for somewhere for a shortish break, July or August. Quite easy as to whether it's self-catering or B&B/hotel. Needs to be in Bakewell itself or easy walking distance to the town for shopping etc, as I don't drive and public transport is not great in this area.
TIA

I remember Bakewell from years ago as a stop for lunch on the way to somewhere else. So I can't help you in terms of where to stay. I think there was a handmade chocolate shop there that was very good. Not sure I can mention the name on here but it should be easily googled.

We've stayed there a few years ago, sorry but can't remember the name of the b&b . I can remember taking the dc to The Heights of Abraham ( they loved it ) and quite nearby are some caves which they enjoyed also.
If you / your family are big readers ( again can't remember name ) but in driving distance is a big book barn.
Chatsworth House is worth a visit.

The places mentioned by Sunnyday are not far from Bakewell but won't be easy to reach without a car.

Are you definitely wanting to be in Bakewell, or just Peak District? If the latter, there are loads of places to stay in Buxton and the Buxton International Festival is on (and able to go ahead!) in July if you are interested in theatre and arts. There's a new 5* spa hotel that's just opened if you wanted to treat yourself as well. There is public transport from there to Bakewell and also Baslow (which is where Chatsworth is) as well as Lyme Park estate.

If you want to be in Bakewell, there are not a lot of holiday cottages in walking distance (I believe that many of the properties can only be bought be people who live/work there) but some of the pubs offer B&B.

wingsofsteel, thank you. I've booked an Airbnb in Bakewell itself (but yes, there weren't many options, partly I guess because I'm going in peak holiday season).

I picked Bakewell for logistical reasons, mainly, although it is a nice town (I've been before, just never needed to stay in the area; I do now as I'm visiting family but can't stay with them as we're being careful about Covid).
