As with a lot of people we haven't been away for 15mths.

I'm stir crazy and work have given us a 'well-being day' off on Fri 25th June.

It's just me & DH. I'd like to see the sea...otherwise we like the usual kind of things: eating out, mooching around independent shops, interesting day trips/museums, exploring new places.

We don't want to travel far for 2 nights so I've narrowed it down to a few places...

  • Lymington/New Forest
  • Bournemouth
  • Lyme Regis
  • Bognor Regis

I haven't been to any of them except for Bournemouth as a sulky teen.

I don't mind if it's a bit twee in a British seaside way but don't want anywhere (a) grim like Blackpool or in a horrible depressing state of decline or (b) there's nothing to do if it rains.

Any thoughts from those that have been?

I've included Bognor as despite being the butt of jokes I thought that might just be due to the distinctly unglamorous name, for all I know it could be nice(?)

Also any other thoughts on places to consider welcome!

We're based in mid/North Hampshire.

@wheresmymojo try The Royal for a meal, it's just won a Michelin bib gourmand. And the old town in Hastings for Brighton lanes style shops

Bournemouth for the golden beaches, trip to New Forest, trip to Jurassic coast and Durdle Door.

Lyme Regis is great because there's fossils as well as pretty beaches. Some of them (charmouth beach I think) are huge and are easy to see when the tide goes out. We stayed in the Bay Hotel overlooking the sea, it's was lovely.

I really hope your hotel in St Leonards is nice. It's not the best location.
