Cool things for teenagers in North Wales - and where to eat?

We’re staying near Llandudno for a few nights in the summer

I’m looking for cool things to do with the kids (15 and 13) away from the obvious Zipworld places.

Is there good coasteering, surfing, boat trips up there?

What about places to eat out? Not too posh, but good quality food and friendly, efficient service.

We live near Llandudno. There's a zoo in Colwyn Bay, an aquarium and games arcade in Rhyl, a great beach in Rhos and cable car/hiking near the Orme in Llandudno. You can walk/cycle from Colwyn bay to Rhos on the seafront. There's a mountain train in Ffestiniog which is great when the weather is nice. Betws y coed has some good walks and restaurants. Also worth a trip to Anglesey for the sea zoo, RSPB reserve at South stack. There's a cliff walk in Penrhyn Bay where you can see seals on the beach from a viewing point. The castle at Conwy is supposed to be a good walk, plus some nice touristy shops within the town walls. Not sure if any of that is "cool" or not but a few ideas anyway Grin

Surfing at Adventure Park www.adventureparcsnowdonia.com
Go Below mining www.go-below.co.uk

Fivemoreminutes1 · 09/06/2021 15:30

There’s a ski and snowboard centre in Llandudno.
RibRide is good for boat trips www.ribride.co.uk/en/

For eating out, try Johnny Dough's Wood-Fired Pizza and Wildwood

Serin · 09/06/2021 18:22

Drive over to RAF Valley, watch the fighter jets and eat at Catch22.

Drive to llanberis, climb Snowdon, eat at Pete's Eats.

Drive over to Aber falls, take your costumes and have a dip in a pool, eat at Blue sky in Bangor.

For real teenage cool though, you really need Rhosneigr or Abersoch. Wink

Muchtoomuchtodo · 09/06/2021 21:41

Thanks all. Lots to look at and I really need to get booking places.
@Serin what’s so cool about Rhosneigr and Abersoch?

Recommend Johnny Dough pizzas too, really nice and good for teens.

Opal71 · 09/06/2021 21:45

we did the Forest coaster last year which my teenagers loved

Jloco · 09/06/2021 22:04

Hickory’s (there’s one in Rhos-on-Sea about 10 mins away) is absolutely brilliant! The campfire marshmallows are good fun.

user1493494961 · 09/06/2021 22:06

The zipwire.

What??? I spent many holidays in rhosneigr as a teenager and it was torture quite frankly. I'd count down the days until it was over.

Serin · 10/06/2021 07:48

Rhosneigr seems to have come up in the world then Wink There's a couple of trendier bars/restaurants there now and whenever we've been it seems popular with teens and groups of early 20s doing watersports or hanging round the beach.Confused

Charliebradbury · 10/06/2021 07:58

A lot of the students go to Rhosneigr now, it's definitely getting cooler haha. I was going to say surf snowdonia.
Jonny doughs and hickorys are great. Wildwood is nice too. Fortes is great for ice cream and desserts. If you like an Italian I like romeos.

doorornottodoor · 10/06/2021 10:41

Following as we’re going in October!

furstivetreats · 10/06/2021 13:58

Do a wild swimming session, I can recommend K Swim (you can find her on Facebook) as a guide.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/06/2021 18:28

Can anyone recommend a good place to go coasteering?

Keep and eye out and ask around about the speed boat that runs from near the pier, its fantastic but I cant find any details on line but it was running on Sunday.

Chips?
enochs.co.uk

Now if you want a traditional Greasy spoon Cafe Mollys is the place near the station I think its £6 and you wont need lunch

Nearest surfing is a good drive away Hells mouth and Rosnieger but I am no expert.

Aber Falls is the nearest I have seen to Norway without going to Norway
www.donthibernate.co.uk/waterfalls-of-north-wales/

Co steering I suspect you will have to travel in to the Snowdonia national park, kids have never done it locally, but its not far

Now this isnt everyones cup of tea
www.tirprince.co.uk/home/
They have a Market / Carboot, Funfair and Horse Buggy racing, its packed but not for everyone

Llangollen is about 1 hour away
www.donthibernate.co.uk/winter-trip-to-llangollen-and-motor-museum/
Nice place and has a lot of Canoeing activities.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 11/06/2021 11:07

Thanks! Some great suggestions here.

We’ve finally booked accommodation in Rhuddlan. Is there anywhere to go crabbing near there?

Charliebradbury · 11/06/2021 11:53

You are closer to Rhyl than llandudno tbh so you could try Rhyl/Abergele.

PaulaSmith1 · 11/06/2021 17:37

How about the worlds fastest zip wire at Bethesda
