Newton Abbot - lovely places nearby for a day out shopping?

Going away with the whole family in the summer. The grandparents love a day out shopping but would love to visit some pretty towns with independent shops rather than a generic high street. They also love a good market! Can anyone please recommend anywhere close to Newton Abbot?

In my head, the whole of Devon is beautiful with lots of lovely chocolate box villages but I don't know the area at all so I could be very wrong!

If you want shopping you must visit Trago Mills for a shopping experience with a difference!

Oh yes I used to love shopping at Topsham too

As many have said Totnes is good for independent shops and has a market in the Civic Square on Fridays and Saturdays.

I love Teignmouth , I know its not the prettiest of towns but its got a good feel about it.

Often some sea front art exhibitions , great park for ages and small skate park (both on the sea front), harbour and back beach are great to go and sit with a coffee or beer, catch the ferry to Shaldon.

Totnes is lovely as others have said, got a great hippy vibe going on there.

How old are the children going?

It's Grace Brothers in reverse.

The only shop I've been to, where I was told not to buy a particular floor covering because and I quote "it's shit".

Now that's good honest customer service!!

@PhilCornwall1

Newton Abbot you say?

Well that's easy, a day out at Trago Mills, can't beat it! 🤔

(If you know, you just know)

I came on here to say Trago as well Grin

My kids love Trago Mills... my OH described it perfectly as B&M meets a petting zoo and has a love child that turns out to be a fun fair... then they all shack up in a castle...
