Any ideas? I'm heading to Bath in a few weeks and was looking for some fun/silly/unusual things to do for two adults!

Thermae roof top spa... naturally heated waters

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/05/2021 22:50

Play dressing up at the Costume museum. I bet you'd rock a poke bonnet!

MayflowerMaisie · 29/05/2021 22:57

There’s a company that do kayak tours along the river... hoping to do one later this year.

Ooh this thread could be so good! Sorry no ideas but I’m so grateful to you for starting it x

sorryiasked · 30/05/2021 18:11

This may not be at all what you're looking for, but the postal museum was tiny and surprisingly interesting!

HereComesYourMam · 31/05/2021 08:59

House of Frankenstein is a new museum opening at the end of June (Mary Shelley wrote most of Frankenstein in Bath): houseoffrankenstein.com/

If the weather's not great, a couple of doors up from there is a brilliant boardgames cafe, if you're into that kind of thing: thirstymeeples.co.uk/pages/bathcafe

If the weather IS great, the beach cafe (with games etc) will be open in a couple of weeks: www.bathonthebeach.co.uk/

As well as kayaking as a PP suggested, you can also do SUP in (or near) Bath: www.originalwild.com/stand-up-paddleboarding-in-bath/

Lurleene · 31/05/2021 09:12

Take a walk along the Two Tunnels Greenway for a different view of the city.

ChelseaChop · 31/05/2021 09:16

Not sure if they’r still operating given Covid, but there are two decent comedy clubs in Bath - I prefer the smaller one.

The skywalk is lovely - not silly but worth doing.

If you’re an Austen fan, you might enjoy taking a turn around the pump room or assembly rooms. The Jane Austen experience is also worth doing.

Madcats · 01/06/2021 10:17

As well as the Comedy Clubs (which I think are just starting up again) there is a magic show upstairs at the Ale House

If the weather stays warm you can hire a skiff or a punt from bath Boating station in Bathwick.

Also you can whizz around on electric scooters if you have a provisional driving licence or better (liked/loathed in about equal proportions at the moment). They are geofenced off some areas and watch out for the potholes! www.voiscooters.com/how-to-voi/

The dark horse is a speakeasy themed bar that’s quite good fun

FoolsAssassin · 01/06/2021 10:49

Great thread to which I can’t contribute but thank you for starting it and to those who are contributing.

Ghostofborleyrectory · 01/06/2021 10:52

Hang out with hippies in the beer garden of community owned 'The Bell'-amazing charity shop opposite piled high with designer bargains (well, there was last time) Train to stunning Bradford on Avon to sit in canal boat next to the Loch Inn, to eat their famous enormous breakfast.

ChelseaChop · 01/06/2021 16:26

Ah yes the Bell! The whole of Walcott street is worth a stroll. Lots of interesting shops and venues.

The main star in Bath is the fabulous Georgian architecture and setting. Plenty will be underwhelmed but if this floats your boat, you’re going to be in awe. The city is like a living museum. Talking of which, No 1 Royal Crescent and the fashion museums are both worth a visit to see what life used to be like for high society.

The canal walk is worth doing and a visit to Sydney gardens & parade gardens.

There is also crazy golf near Victoria park I think.

Ah lovely, lovely Bath. How I’d love to be there on a beautiful day like this!

HereComesYourMam · 03/06/2021 07:02

Another nice thing to do is walk up to Alexandra Park - best approach is by the path/steps up through the woodland off Holloway. The views out over the city are really amazing, and at weekends there's a van that sells choux buns and coffee etc.

evilkitten · 03/06/2021 07:05

The bizzare bath walk is extremely good, if they're running at the moment.

reprehensibleme · 03/06/2021 07:12

Not really unusual, but the museum at 1 Royal Crescent is lovely.

Chai Wallah for lunch - tiny hole in the wall takeaway that does great food - try the samosa chaat.

RockaLock · 03/06/2021 07:23

Watch glass blowing at Bath Aqua Glass. I think it's free to watch.

When we went, we paid for the DC to do their own glass blowing - they made a bauble - but not sure if they'll be doing that at the moment.

adviceseekingnamechanger · 04/06/2021 18:23

Thanks so much for all the ideas, these are great!

Take a trip on one of the canal boats or as someone said - go punting.

I second crazy gold up at Victoria Park (which is just below the Royal Circle).

Not crazy but the Roman baths are fantastic followed by afternoon tea in the pump room drinking real bath spring water.

Thermae Spa is wonderful - sitting looking over the roof tops in natural spring waters is a real trip.

The outdoor cinema is starting up again if it is a warm evening.

AvocadoPlant · 04/06/2021 21:41

The theatre is beautiful snd has reopened.

LilyE1234 · 04/06/2021 21:49

Paddle boarding along the canal.

As a local I really don’t rate the spa - it’s always full of groups of noisy hen parties and was quite run down the last time I went. They might have tidied it up over lockdown though and I imagine is a lot quieter than usual.

Hare and hounds pub for a great pub garden with a view

LordEmsworth · 04/06/2021 21:53

If they are doing it, the tour of the abbey tower. You get to sit inside the clock...

Mankini · 09/06/2021 14:49

If you're an Austen fan, take a tour with Dr Moira:

www.thebathguide.com/regency-walking-tours

She is absolutely brilliant on architecture, Austen and local gossip
