Haggerston Castle under 5's

We have a 4-day break booked to Haggerston Castle with Haven for July; 4 adults, a 3 year old, 2 year old and a 9 month old.

Ideas on where we can go/what we can do? We would be perfectly happy to stay on site and go to the parks with the kids but we just want options incase we fancy a day out: We haven't been there before and will have cars to travel. We thought about if it rains we could go swimming etc but just want options in case it's nice of places we could explore. We did think of Holy Island but not too sure what's there so any suggestions would be great! Thanks

I went a few years ago but all adults so not sure about things for the little ones. We did go to Holy Island which was nice, I don't remember there being stuff for small kids to do though, we just walked around in the sun and had a pub lunch and loved driving up and seeing the seals! We also took a trip to Alnnick Castle (sp?) gardens on the way home at the end of our stay which was lovely and I think we had lunch there as well. I'm not sure if they have a playground or anything I don't remember so might be worth a look.

On site we did a few activities like archery and horse riding - there might be pony rides for the 2 and 3 yr olds?

Bamburgh castle (couple of shops, nice walk round castle and beach)
Seahouses (arcades, shops, pubs)
Both lovely place 20/30mins away. Seahouses may be best for the kids with the arcades.

Heatherslaw Light Railway runs from from Heatherslaw across to Etal Castle. Etal Village is a short distance from the station and you can eat at the lovely family friendly Lavender Tearooms.
You can often spot seals from Spittal beach

You must do holy island! Breathtakingly beautiful. Make sure you check the tides before crossing and be sure to head to the beach while it's out, so much life in those waters.
Most of it is pretty accessible with a pushchair but take all strollers rather than a big pram cause you'll need to lift it in places. You will need to pre book the heritage sites though. The priory is a lovely spot to relax while the kids run about.
It's my favourite place in the world.

Ah thank you all so much for your ideas! I've made a list and going to send them to the friends we're going with so we can have a good look into each. I had a Google of tide times for Holy Island and photos came up with cars that didn't check and ended up floating in the sea - as someone who can't swim I think I'll keep my eyes closed as we drive along that road 😂

Try and time your crossing across the causeway to Holy Island just as the tide is going out if you can. Kids (and adults) find it really exciting to be driving on the road but surrounded by the sea Smile
