Hi, a visit to Devil's Bridge?
You can get there on a steam train (if it's running) which is a nice way to see the countryside.
If you like walking, a trek up Constitution Hill and maybe on to Clarach.
There's an alternative energy centre at Machynlleth which isn't far.
Nice sandy beach at Ynyslas nearby (beach at Aber is stony). Also North beach.

It's years since I was a student there so there may be more to do these days!

Lots of pubs, sitting outside the Glen watching the sun go down is lovely when you get a good sunset.

Aberdyfi is worth a visit.

Steam train to Devil's Bridge.
Ynyslas.
Funicular railway or walk up Constirution Hill & look through camera obscura.
Drive down the coast to New Quay or Aberaeron. At New Quay, you can often see dolphins from the beach or go on a dolphin spotting boat trip.
Take the train up the Cambrian Coast to Aberdyfi, Tyeyn, Barmouth - fantastic views from the train.

There's also the arts centre, have a look in advance to see whether there's anything on.

Barmouth has a nice beach and cader idris is the most beautiful magical mountain.

I second the kite feeding, centre of Alternative technology, steam train to devils bridge, sit on the sea front and drink coffee and watch the sea, there a mine somewhere near too which was quite good. There is Borth beach for swimming and surfing and constitution hill and a wander round the castle in Aber itself and don’t forget to kick the bar.

It may be too late, but having been in the Aberystwyth area for the last week, on hols, here are my findings:

  • Aberystwyth: run down and a bit grim. Pebbly beach. Avoid.
  • Nant yr Arian kite feeding: not to be missed. 3pm every day and a fantastic experience. 250 kites swooping low over your head. Also nice walks
  • New Quay: lovely. Dolphin watching boat trip - almost guaranteed to see them. Pretty little town and lovely beach
  • Aberaeron: another pretty town, but pebbly beach
  • Elan Valley reservoirs: lovely walks, good visitor centre, fantastic views
  • Rhayader: pretty town. Lovely river walk along the Wye. Eat at The Lost Arc - excellent food.
  • Devil's Bridge: worth a visit. You could get the Rheidol Valley steam train from Aber, or drive there. Long walk down and long walk back up, but worth it
  • Newport: an hours drive, but worth it for good pub food and an indoor climbing wall for kids
  • Borth: run down - avoid
