Booking flights within UK in August?

I haven't seen my family [Mum and Dad in their 80s and sisters in their 50s] who live in Glasgow since last Feb, so am desperate to see them. One sister lives with my parents and the other lives 15 minutes' walk away. They see each other all the time - obviously.

I have just messaged them to suggest I book something [flexible of course] to come up end of July/beg of August and have been roundly told not to bother until the all clear [whenever that happens]. I feel deeply upset as I have said I'd book something as long as I can amend / cancel if I have to. They see each other all the time and I don't think they appreciate how much I miss them.

When my Dad broke his leg 2 years ago, I wasn't 'allowed' to come up to visit and I regret not just going anyway. My family are notoriously 'careful' and full of conspiracy theories. I just want to see them. If I leave it until it's all-clear, everyone will have booked planes, trains etc and I won't see them for ages.

Thinking of messaging again and saying I'll book for 2025, just to be on the safe side.Angry

I'm going to a wedding in Wales end of August [covid permitting] but that won't happen if restrictions are back in place, so what's the difference?

Any advice?

Where are you flying from? If the flight is with BA there’s a future travel voucher if you want to change it, so book something and it’s there if you need it, but you have the option to change.

Southampton. I think I saw BA on the list but it's actually easyjet running the flight under their banner? I'll check it out, thanks

Booked direct with BA - checked their Ts & Cs - I wouldn't want to cancel the ticket anyway, so as long as I can keep changing the date, at least I have something booked? That way, when the 'rush' starts, I'll already have something on the books. If I really do have to cancel, a voucher for future travel will go towards a flight to see the family anyway.

I'm not going to bother telling them I've booked as they were so negative about it.

...also paid by credit card - as extra 'insurance'
