Visiting the Eden Project - where to stay?

I’d like to take 13yo DS to the Eden project this summer. We’d be going by train (from London), so would need accommodation within walking distance ideally of the Eden project itself.

Any recommendations please for this, and for anything else that we could do locally as part of the trip? Likely to go mid week and out of state school holidays, as DS finishes school for the summer on 1st July.

Covid permitting, of course.

To to be honest, St Austell isn’t my favourite place in Cornwall but it would be a good base for your stay. The station is on the mainline from Paddington and it has a good variety of hotels, B&Bs and restaurants.
I’d recommend a trip to Mevagissey. The harbour and village itself are great for a mooch, there’s a small museum, aquarium and model railway, plus a daily ferry to Fowey during the summer which takes around 35 minutes.
It would be a shame to go so far and be so close to the Lost Gardens of Heligan without visiting. The bus from St Austell to Megavissey caries on to the gardens.

There are a few b and b's around the Eden project , st. Austell is the nearest town but as a previous poster said it's not great ( I live there ) lots of pubs dotted around with accommodation as well. Also recommend a trip to mevagissey and Charlestown

I stayed at the YHA at Eden with my then 12 year old a few years ago.
The bus from St Austell station stops just outside,

You stay in converted shipping containers, great fun for a couple of nights.

They are still closed for the foreseeable future.

They flooded and had a landslide in December.

Oh now awful. I had no idea. I will keep an eye out for news and will definitely look into the yha and those attractions. They sound perfect, thank you.
