Has anyone been for a holiday here or live nearby? Wondering what it's like for children?

It depends on the age of your dc, whether they can spend the whole day on the beach and whether you’re happy to drive further afield for other activities. The beach is great for kids - it’s very accessible and the shops and cafes are right behind it. There isn’t really anything else for kids though so you’d have to drive for days out. Healey’s cyder farm, Lappa Valley and Dairyland farm park are all quite near. There’s the aquarium at Newquay if it rains (but everyone else does that when it rains too!).

Totally forgot I started this thread. Thanks so much, I looked up the places you mentioned.

Kids will be almost 5yo and 6mo when we go (pandemic allowing). Ds1 will be happy on the beach all day if the weather is good. He would also love lappa valley and dairyland farm.
Also found oasis fun pool so at least there's that and the aquarium if it rains.

We'll be coming at the start of June so hopefully won't be too busy.

We went a couple of years ago and stayed in St Agnes, just up the road from Perranporth. I would say it depends what you are after. Perranporth is a busy sort of resort type place with lots of shops and restaurants etc and a fabulous beach with lots of surf schools etc. We spent 2 days on that beach. St Agnes and the bays that lie to the side are smaller and more quaint but don't have the huge expanse of sand (some are shingle I think)! The walks around that area are also gorgeous and perfectly do-able with kids your age. My kids liked Lappa Valley but there was not so much for a 7 year old, better for my then 3 year old who loved it. There's plenty to do though and it is a lovely area.
