North Norfolk - where to stay?

I am thinking of next summer's holiday being a week in North Norfolk. Can spend up to £1700 on a house with three beds. Don't know whether to book in Cromer, Blakeney, Sheringham or somewhere else as we have never been to the area before.
We would like a small town / village with a beach / sea and restaurants and a shop/ shops that we can walk to.
Somewhere naice!

Blakeney is probably too small and there’s not all that much to do.
Between Sheringham and Cromer, it’s hard to choose. I’d probably say Sheringham has the better beach - it feels cleaner and more upmarket. Wells is smaller and feels more like a village, yet it still has a selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. Wells beach is gorgeous but it’s quite a trek from the town centre.

Sheringham is lovely. Good butchers, fish (obviously), plenty of places to eat out or get takeaway plus nice beaches. The little theatre is great if there is something on when you are due to go Smile Blakeney is also lovely but there is bugger all there really.

We stayed in Mundesley a few years ago and that was lovely.

Thanks for the tip about Blakeney - it does look nice but I don't want to have to get in the car for everything.

Looks lovely rslsys but there are four of us and we need three bedrooms.

I'm leaning towards Holt. I'm a bit worried that Sheringham is not as 'naice' as Holt. Also Sheringham looks a bit busy.
We want to go to Hillside, Cromer go karts, Felbrigg, Bickling, Norwich and the Norfolk Broads for a day. Also a beach or two. Thought Holt might be good as there are nice shops to walk to for supplies and also (hopefully still ) restaurants to walk to for dinner.

Thinking I'd forgo the beach for somewhere nice. Would like somewhere like Beaumaris but in Norfolk!

Out of Sheringham and Cromer, I’d go for Sheringham every time. You can get the steam train to Holt and back for best of both worlds.

May I also suggest Wells-Next-The-Sea. There’s a fabulous 3 bed Air B&B we stayed at a few years ago right on the Main street behind the shops. Lots of shops and restaurants. A good mixture of naice and traditional seaside but no tack. The beach is a little walk away from the town centre but there’s a light gauge train that can take you there and back again. You can walk to Holkham which is also beautiful.

Decided to go for Holt - can't wait!

It's all a lovely area. You'll have a great time I am sure Grin

Holt is lovely. Burnham Market is naicer. Thornham Deli. Wells and Cromer are good for a visit but not my choice for a break!

My favourite places in England are on this thread. Enjoy, OP!

Oh handy - I just found this thread having started my own about north Norfolk vs Dorset (Swanage area)! I love Wells but having been a few times am trying to identify alternatives which would give us the same smallish town feel, lots of restaurants, a fantastic beach and plenty of cycling opportunities.

Any views on West Runton - v interesting to read what's said upthread about Cromer vs Sheringham. For us being on the coast is essential.

Local resident here! Sheringham is a bit more upmarket than Cromer, although Cromer is becoming a tad more gentrified these days.

Wells is a real cross between the two; posh delis and shops, but still has amusements etc.

West Runton is lovely, but there's not a great deal to do, athough it does have a good bus service and a rail link to Sheringham/Norwich. Great for fossil hunting though.

Mundesley, Bacton, Walcott etc are a bit more traditional seaside villages, with mainly caravans and chalets as accommodation.

@bridgetjonesmassivepants Enjoy your holiday. Out of curiosity what do you mean by 'naice'? Genuine question. Posh?
