Let me extol the virtues of the Lleyn Peninsula.

Spent last week there in a self catering cottage, on a farm.

For those who are mildly geographically challenged it is the sticky out bit just underneath Anglesey.

Absolutely beautiful. Just the tops. Lots of small mountainous/big hillish bits. Everywhere else is rolling green hills with sheep and cows galore. Occasional cool mini bits of forest to drive through (tunnels of trees that the dd's squealed with delight every time we drove through).

And the beaches........well if the sea hadn't been shriek inducingly cold we could have been on a tropical island. Aquamarine blue it was. Top sand, nice rock pooly stuff, good tides so you didn't have half a mile to get to the sea when the tide was out, but big enough so as DH could make a proper big (I may not own a ferrari but check out the size of this mound of sand) sized sand castles.

Most of the beaches had good cafes on. Our fave beach (Porth Oer aka Whistling Sands), had a cafe that did Cheddar and Chutney panninis....how wonderful is that.

Abersoch (where the Cheshire Set holiday donchaknow), also v nice, some good shops and plenty of good eating establishments. No tat.

Oh and the weather was excellent, I got a mild tan...in October.

So there we go. Had to get that out of my system. Great place. We will be returning.

Slubberdegullion · 09/10/2007 19:25

pointy...not exactly sure what you are on about dear. Are you needing \ / support on another thread?

I'm not sure I'm in favour of 2nd homes either, so let's say I now covet a well equipped and tastefully decorated holiday chalet overlooking the sea, somewhere on the Lleyn.

Slubber' - just click on the reviews link on the top of the page. Then click on Travel - UK - and off you go!

Slubberdegullion · 09/10/2007 19:26

But not on an estate of holiday chalets, in a field, on it's own (with plumbing).

Abby I did one a few mins ago, hope it's OK, I will embellish further if required.

Just seen it on the system - what was the actual name of your accommodation and the farm? Need to give those details, but I can add in.

PoshCod · 09/10/2007 20:00

wooh ge her " on the system"

moondog · 09/10/2007 20:00

Ah yes,Lleyn peninsula is ace.I live on the edge of it and work down there most days.
Glad that so many of you like it too. In fact.....Countess Dracula and I are house swapping next week so that she can get her regular Lleyn peninsula fix..

The first Mumsnet houseswap I believe.

Lucycat · 09/10/2007 20:02

shhhh slubber don't tell everyone how gorgeous it is on the Lleyn!

We go there lots - my absolute favourite part of Wales.

check out this webcam --- when it's light obviously It's the view from the Ty Coch pub across the bay to Nefyn at Porth Dinllaen. Pint of beer on the beach a must!

moondog · 09/10/2007 20:21

You've posted that before, haven't you Lucy?
Guffaw at the view at this time of night.
Waves sound nice thoguh.

pooka · 09/10/2007 20:25

We were at the Ty Coch in May - was absolutley gorgeous. Stayed in a tiny cottage with my father, step-mother and my brothers - were going to a Memorial service in an amazing church not far away and then back to my aunt's house which is in Cefynwrch (I think). Was beautiful - absolutely amazing. Would love to go again.

pointydog · 09/10/2007 20:31

don't worry re keeping quiet about it. The Welsh tourist board - or whatever equivalent they have - does a good enough job at keeping it all quiet

pointydog · 09/10/2007 20:32

abbymumsnet was so poilute at pointing out that you have forgotten to give the name of your accommodation. Such a small detail, lol

moondog · 09/10/2007 20:32

That's because I've had a word with them...

pointydog · 09/10/2007 20:33

apologies for my \ /. I was epxecting moondog to come on here with a torrent of foul-mouthed abuse and I was girding myself. However, she was sweet as a lamb.

pointydog · 09/10/2007 20:34

ah! she's still about

pointydog · 09/10/2007 20:35

lol moondog.

moondog · 09/10/2007 20:36

I'm being nice....for now.

Oh,I want you all to come. You are most welcome! Stay if you like too. Just don't try and mess with us.

Lucycat · 09/10/2007 20:38

we camp moondog - is that ok?

pointydog · 09/10/2007 20:38

... or you'll try to blow us up, fumble it, bumble it, nd we'll all be ok after all

I'm thinking about the Prince Charles, Caernarfon thing in teh 60s)

Lucycat · 09/10/2007 20:38

oh and yes I have posted that webcam before - it gets me through the winter

Slubberdegullion · 09/10/2007 21:00

Abby, this is where I make myself look like a complete and utter plonker, but we can't remember the name of the farm.

On the website it's just listed as cottage 91.

It started with a G, then there were a lot more letters, most of them consonants. I think it might have ended with a yn. Should I e-mail the company and ask?

I feel like a fool. Fiirst review and I've failed miserably. MN Dunce hat on.

Slubberdegullion · 09/10/2007 21:05

Gwynnaghar maybe?

Gwynngyn?

Gwynn....... oh ffs I cant remember, bloody welsh language, melodic my arse, can't even remember where the bloody hell we slept for a whole effing week.

Slubberdegullion · 09/10/2007 21:13

Why did I just (hopefully) click on Lucycat's web cam link. My God's it's dark down there on the Lleyn, like being in a cave with a balaclava on back to front dark. Couldn't hear any waves either.
