Cottage with pool access in November - close to a coast

Family of 4, 2 young adult DC working in gap year/post uni. One has leave booked at end of Nov which coincides with eldest birthday, so we are looking at a week in a cottage.

We have been to a cottage complex in Cornwall over NY in the past, and keen to return, however owners are saying they may close the pool Oct/Nov for environmental reasons. Whilst we don’t have to have pool access, we found it useful on past winter breaks, given that it’s dark so early. We could walk or visit somewhere, then back to cottage for a swim before dinner.

So can anyone recommend a cottage complex or similar with indoor pool that is open in Nov (happy to book sessions if required by Covid).

It doesn’t have to be on the coast as such, but within 10-15miles so we can access coastal walks. I have done a quick sweep of 2 cottage companies and found the odd one, but many pools are outdoor or close for winter.

We would probably prefer south coast or SW, but am open to other suggestions. Preferably not S or West Wales as we’ve already been there this year, happy with N Wales.

We live off M6 between Birmingham and Manchester, so reasonably central for most coastal areas.

We stayed in one a few years back in great Torrington but I can't recall the name of the complex...it was only a small indoor pool though, more of something to have a splash about in rather than proper swimming!

Seagrove looks nice but I think the bunk beds would be limiting as both DC are young adults and tall! Twin beds needed as a minimum, would also consider a 3bed cottage so they have separate rooms.

A small indoor pool is fine, we don’t want to do lengths, just somewhere to splash around and have some downtime in once dark or if wet.

How about a cottage with a hot tub much easier to find?

You could look at Bosinver in Cornwall, which has loads of stuff for young kids which wouldn’t be of use to you (animal feeding?!), but also fits the bill with lovely cozy cottages, indoor pool and near coast

Apologies for not returning to the thread sooner. Thanks for some great suggestions, will make a list and check them all out.

Owners of our preferred cottages are now saying they will open the pool if we go, guess they want to know they have confirmed business this year. We will probably go with what we know this time, esp as they have Covid cancellation policy .

But I will look at everyones suggestions out and keep a list for future use - we love the Yorkshire coast and Northumberland, and go to Pembs regularly with caravan, but it’s always worth knowing good cottages.

No idea of your budget but Bovey castle has self catering lodges and you can use the hotel pool. I've stayed in other places including Hilton's with self catering lodges too. That said at those ages I would look at a hotel.

Oh and yes, the suggestion of a hot tub instead of pool was one of our thoughts.

DH and DD aren’t that fussed about pool, DS and myself are (mainly given the time of year, less reliable weather/dark earlier) but we all agreed a hot tub would be a nice alternative.

I will look at Bovey castle and lodges - DH and I went to similar on Loch Lomond (Cameron House) before we got married, with friends, and I did consider those, but the hotel is closed until the spring (think it had a fire at some point?)

We are happy with a hotel for a weekend break (Used to go regularly at Feb HT - we use caravan rest of year), or on long haul hols, but prefer self catering if we can. It is easier for us all to relax together in an evening, and we don’t have to eat out all the time. We know we are on borrowed time with DC and holidays, so trying to make the best of this year and their availability/wish to join us!

Money not a problem, but prefer to choose whether to cook (DC cook for us a lot anyway), have takeaway, or eat out!
