DP & I are heading for a 2 night break next week, 40 & 38 and are after some recommendations on what to do.

We've looked on TripAdvisor so have an idea but i thought I'd ask here too, in case I'm missing something awesome.

TIA

You could easily spend half a day exploring the top of the Great Orme, where there’s a shop, cafe and visitor’s centre. There are incredible views across the bay, along the Welsh coastline, towards Snowdonia National Park and out to the Irish Sea. You can start of the walk up from between the tram station and Fish Tram Chips (the best place to eat for good old fish and chips) and follow the tracks up. If the walk is just too much then you can choose between the tram and the cable car. The tram will go off to the left up the road, but if walking you are best to head to the Llandudno Ski and Snowboard Centre and follow the path up from there. Once there, visit the Great Orme Mining Site and wander around the Country Park.
The Cottage Loaf is special. It has open fires, wooden beams and friendly service. It's tucked away on a back street in the centre, but feels like the perfect country pub.
Conwy is just a 15 min drive (or 25 min bus ride), and as a UNESCO heritage site, it’s worth coming out of Llandudno for one morning to take in it’s beauty.
Walk around Conwy Castle, the Suspension Bridge and the town walls and then stop for lunch in the Conwy Harbour. Try the amazing chocolates from Baravelli's.
On your way home try to fit in Bodnant Garden. It’s about 8 miles south of the town.

As above really its a hidden Gem, Walk the walls of Conwy its free too.
A short drive out of Llandudno is Enochs chippy best in the area
enochs.co.uk
We drive to the top of the great Orm same route as the Tram and when you drive back follow the church signs its a tight road and pay the £2 I think for the Toll road, spectacular views, it comes out at Llandudno,s second beach and a short drive back to town.
Have a root around on here as there is lots of local info

Short drive to the Little Orm, walk to Angel Bay to see the seals, Beach Cafe over the road is excellent, This is a little further on, all on the web link above apart form the cafe

About 30 mins away Nice village and waterfall walks

Aber Falls about 20 mins drive just inside the Snowdonia national park

The problem with this area is people often don't realise just how good it is and how much good stuff is so near by.
Dont forget to report back.

StrawberryFizz26 · 28/08/2020 10:05

funf thank you too. There's so much to do, we're going to have such fun exploring & I'll report back!

So how did it go? Any top tips for things we have missed?

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 15/12/2020 16:43

Definitely explore both Ormes and the West beach as the views are amazing. Conwy is great as is Bodnant Gardens.

PinkDaydreams · 14/03/2021 16:59

Due to go in may for a few nights and I'm so excited! Unfortunately eating in restaurants won't be available (the cottage loaf recommended up thread is lovely, been a few times) but I'm hoping take aways will be an option and also hoping for the sun as the place we are renting has its own garden and it's right on the beach.
Hopefully the swimming baths will be open, checked the website and say the cable cars will be closed. I'm hoping the orme will be up and running though :)
I'll be sure to check out bodnant garden too.
Any further ideas for this family getaway please? Son is 3 Smile

Funf · 15/03/2021 19:34

You can drive to the top of the great Orm , spectacular views, its not sign posted and very steep. On the way down take the Toll road route past the church.
Does he like trains?
www.nwmes.org.uk/aerial-view/
Its a miniature railway next to the west beach
Cafe next door is fab

Fancy a Ride out?
30 mins away is Betws-y- Coed

www.donthibernate.co.uk/betws-y-coed/

Nice little place but go to Fairy Glen if its open, I think it will be its about £1 each and £1 to park, usually just an honesty box, nice flat river side path but also a more challenging one through the gorge.

A little father afield

www.donthibernate.co.uk/beddgelert/

Or head north towards the Little Orm, have a walk to Angel bay and a Coffee in Rhos, or this Cafe near Angel bay is excellent

Try this route in reverse.

PinkDaydreams · 16/03/2021 08:32

Thank you @Funf ! I had a nosey at the links you provided further up thread, the railway is definitely something we will be doing, as long as it's open, as little one loves trains! Planning on going up the orme in the tram too. I'm just hoping that things will be open.
Love Betws-y- Coed, used to go alot when little so again we will be taking a trip there.
The fairy glen looks great, I've never heard of that so will also take a trip there too, thank you!

windymillertheecowarrior · 17/03/2021 19:05

Portmeirion if it is open.

PinkDaydreams · 18/03/2021 11:43

@windymillertheecowarrior

Portmeirion if it is open.
Thank you! Had a quick nosey on trip advisor and online, it looks like a village with a castle, is that correct? Are there any walks or nice gardens there please?

I'm after activities to tire out the toddler! Grin

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 18/03/2021 19:35

@PinkDaydreams you can walk through the gardens as a day visitor, and the toddler can run down the path to the estuary if it is not muddy (only been in the summer). It is a village with a castle near the entrance.

Unfortunately closed until 1 April, just looked on the website.

That sounds perfect thank you!
Hopefully we can find a picnic spot somewhere.

The weekend after we come back retaurants will be allowed to serve food inside which is a bit annoying as we were hoping to enjoy some cafes and restaurants but I'm thinking alot will still be closed.

Funf · 19/03/2021 05:33

I think Bodnant is better than Portmerion, but its still a nice place.

PinkDaydreams · 29/03/2021 07:40

I'm hoping this still goes ahead as there's no latest info for when holiday makers from England are allowed into Wales :(
