Hi All we have managed to get a cottage in Dinas Cross which is between Newport and Fishguard on Friday for a week, it is not an area we know we have a 7 and 11 year old for those of you in the know could you point us in the direction of some must sees in the area other than the beach of course. Thanks in advance

The Welsh Wildlife Centre www.welshwildlife.org/uncategorized/things-to-see-and-do-at-the-welsh-wildlife-centre/ has lots to interest children and you can even hire canoes.

The barefoot trail at Castell Henllys Iron Age village is good fun! After the trail, you can carry on up to the Iron Age Village or head to the visitor centre which has a riverside café, picnic site and play area.

Dyfed Shire Horse Farm has horses to see and pet, as well as sheep, donkeys, llamas etc...You can catch the tractor and trailer ride or take a horse and cart ride. They have regular farrier and other demonstrations. The outdoor play area has crazy golf, trampoline, land train rides and an adventure playground.

Thousand Islands Expeditions offer wildlife adventure boat trips around Ramsey Island Nature Reserve. You might see grey seals in the bays and the seal pups are usually born about now.

Scotlton Manor and grounds are worth exploring. There are also climbing and scrambling walls, a maze, and other play features dotted around the park.

Celtic coasteering if feeling adventurous, long beach Newport is a great beach, Cwm-yr-eglwys is fab, but check the tide as not much beach when it is high, get there early as small car park and it has an ice cream van. Folly farm is a good day out as well. ST David’s is lovely and white sands a huge beach where you can body board. Porthgain has a great pub. In Newport the Golden lion does great food but you may need to book. Brynberian has the stones and burial chamber and is where some of the stones for Stonehenge came from. In Letterston something’s cooking is good for fish and chips, you can sit in, Hooked in Fishguard good for take always. If you want to go crabbing, lower town Fishguard harbour is a good place to have a go and has a cafe!

Kayak king from Fishguard Lower Town are great. We had a brilliant fishing trip with Thousand Islands from St Justinian’s too.

Crabbing in lower town is the best. You can buy the gear from the shop in Dinas Cross which is also really good for local meat etc. Buy a cheap pack of bacon and be generous with it! High tide is best.
Cym Yr Eglwys (pronounced cum wreg loys) is a nice beach. Best to park at Pwllgwealod (Fill gway lod) as pp said and walk through. If kids will hack a longer walk carry on the coastal path to Aberfforth. Deserted beach in a lovely inlet. You can only get there by private road or walking. Great place for lunch. Little River perfect for damning. You can walk back along the Riverside and see a truly beautiful little waterfall.
Hangar 5 in Haverfordwest trampoline place.
Boat trips from St David's are all great. Do book though.
Folly Farm is a good day out if they like animals.

There’s a horse riding centre just up the road towards Newport, which we loved. We had a holiday there when my kids were only a little bit older and it was fab. You can walk to the beach at Pwllgwaelod from DC and the beach at Newport is only a 5-10 mins drive. Swimming in the sea at Newport is brilliant because the scenery is lovely. When we were there you could also park on the beach.
I second Castell Henllys and you can also take a day trip to South Pembs where there are more attractions.
