Help! Going to Bristol and the weather looks like it’s going to be rubbish! Any suggestions to help me stop this being a complete nightmare!

After having a bit of a nightmare with holiday plans this summer and searching for weeks to try to find something, I managed to book accommodation in Bristol for this week. I was so pleased as I’ve always wanted to visit this area however this was before the weather forecast looked terrible! I’m now panicking about how I’m going to keep the kids entertained and have a lovely time in what looks like pretty miserable weather compared to what we’ve been used to recently. We had planned visit Bath and the coast but now aren’t sure how much fun that will now be! Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'd take some new board games, ingredients to make cakes, fancy dress dinner party stuff, craft box, DVDs and lots of wine 😂

Either that or cancel if you can't stand he thought of being stuck in!

It is a shame Tho as everything inside like swimming and soft play are closed although some bowling alleys are open and mon-wed 50% off meals out

How old are they?

Everythingstaken · 17/08/2020 00:24

They’re 12,9 & 4. It’s frustrating because we love being out and about and the whole point of going away was to get a change of scenery, visit the coast and get to explore. I think it’s just going to have to be a case of raincoats on and get out whatever the weather.

Zoo, giants cave, ss Great Britain, wild place, clevedon lake all good to do in the rain ( not sure ss GB or cave open you would need to check)

There is a lot for children to do in Bristol. There's a good expensive Science Museum with a naff name 'we the curious' which children absolutely love! The SS Great Britain which you can look round, and the water taxis at the harbour are good. Look at M Shed as well

The offices of Aardman Animation are near the SS Great Britain, wander down the road a little from the car park behind it to see them (you can't go in)

Where are you staying in Bristol? In the city centre?

MrsMoastyToasty · 17/08/2020 00:42

If you're around the harbourside you can catch one of the ferries. They do a hop on hop off ticket. Around the harbourside is the SS Great Britain, the Underfall Yard, The Matthew (working replica of the ship John Cabot sailed in to America), the M Shed museum, Alnolfini art gallery, there's also plenty of bars and restaurants.
If you go into Clifton there's the zoo, the downs, the suspension bridge and the camera obscura. Loads of naice shops too.
Further afield is the Concorde museum in Patchway. There's a steam railway at Bitton . The Wild Place near Cribbs Causeway.

You can also go Banksy hunting.

I've just got back from a weekend in Bristol and my favourite activity I did was an escape room! It's called locked in a room. Great for the kids and adults and left us talking about it all afternoon! We also went to the science museum opposite and aquarium (not so great imo)

TreacsPotNoodle · 17/08/2020 00:56

Should add the science museum was great just not the aquarium FYI !!

Blaise Castle is also good, not sure about the house itself but a lot of people recommend the grounds as you can walk and it's got an adventure playground.

I've not been to the aquarium myself but have heard that it's not great tbh - I don't think I've ever heard anyone recommend it!

Are you in a car?

Everythingstaken · 17/08/2020 09:08

Thank you all so much! I’d made plans based on sunnier weather so it really helps to know what’s doable in the rain! We do have a car, our original plan was to travel to the coast and visit Bath as well as Bristol. I’m relieved I held back on booking the aquarium now! Mine all love aquariums!
