Things to do in/around Chester

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could recommend anything to do with a toddler (20 months) in or around Chester?

We’re going next week so the zoo is already fully booked but looking for any recommendations of things we can do?

He loves animals so the zoo being booked is a shame but it’s our fault for leaving it so late!

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Blue Planet aquarium is open and you don't need to prebook. They're just staggering entry

Ice cream farm definitely

Nip up to Birkenhead and take the ferry across the Mersey.

We had a nice day out on the beach at Rhyl and I would recommend the Ferry across the Mersey

Check if the boats are running on the river. Or there’s Delamere Forest about 15/20 mins away with lots of trails to explore.

Ice cream farm - you have to book there now but its cheap. Could easily spend the day there and you're allowed to take picnics currently.
Delemere forest - the gruffalo trail is a good length walk and you get to see the gruffalo!
Sandy Lane splash Park - splash Park with playground, not sure if it's running again yet?
Blue planet aquarium
Grosvenor Park in the city centre - lovely playground and a train that grows around the park also close to the River for boat trips and in town for a look around
New Brighton - beach and little fair ground
Blakemere craft Village - little shops, playground and forest with little fairy doors hidden all over

The miniature railway at Grosvenor Park in the city is opening again this week (yay!). It also has a nice playground and plenty of space for your toddler to run around. The amphitheatre is also close by and the Roman Gardens, which were places I took my toddlers when they were small.

There are lots of nice places to eat in town - one of my favourites is Zugers.

The walk around the walls gives you some lovely views of the city, although it is shut near the Grosvenor shopping centre, but you can just come down to street level. It's always nice to feed the ducks at the river too. You can cross the suspension bridge and walk on the Meadows if the weather is good.

Enjoy! I walked around the walls with a friend yesterday, it was lovely.

The zoo is reporting lots of daily no-shows (According to the local rag). I don’t know if there if they have a system for last minute admissions. Might be worth a call?

Oh, and if it's raining, maybe check out the cinema at The Storyhouse in town? The library is also there and there's a nice cafe too.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 04/08/2020 07:42

Keep checking the Chester Zoo website. I got member tickets on Sunday at 8am for the same day, having been checking several times a day since Wednesday.

JessicaPeach · 04/08/2020 08:20

The water isn't on at Sandy Lane at the moment and I agree, keep checking for zoo tickets

You could try backford belles ice cream farm too. Not at all like Cheshire farm but nice for a play
