I have booked a holiday rental for the family in Norfolk towards end of July. We desperately need the break but I am nervous about going away as have chronic asthma - it is under control just inhalers used. The property will be cleaned well between guests they have a covid cleaning certificate, but I still am worried about things like carpets how they can clean this thoroughly with guests arriving later same day. We will arrive about 6 hours after the guests check out. Am I worrying unnecessarily? We plan to totally self cater and just enjoy the coastal walks and quieter beaches.

Honestly only you can decide this as everyone's attitude to risk is different.

I feel exactly the same we have cancelled our holiday abroad.
I feel like booking a few days a way in the UK for a change of scenery just somewhere quietish with nice walks and some scenery for DD’s photography but I am worried about booking anywhere re: pillows, quilts, sofa’s, mattresses etc.

Everyone's attitude to risk does seem to be different but it is good to know people have the same anxieties. Splattherat we too cancelled our holiday abroad but we have bitten the bullet and are going ahead with the uk holiday. We are taking our own pillows and will be disinfecting as much as we can ourselves before we settle in. The mattresses will have clean replacement covers, but the sofas do still worry me and I have bought a disinfectant which may use or cover the sofa with a blanket. The accommodation has an excellent rating for cleanliness and they have assured me they are deep cleaning. So looking forward to the holiday now, but wouldn't go if infection rate increases significantly or to a high risk area.

I read that the virus lasted an hour at most on porous surfaces, so you should be OK with the soft furnishings.

Splattherat · 11/07/2020 22:39

That sounds good where are you off to 2treehouse?

2treehouse · 12/07/2020 10:49

I couldn't find anything conclusive on porous services, hence my caution but good to know only lasts an hour. Bookings are back to back so the previous guests leave in the morning we arrive evening so hopefully if well aired, things are ok. We are going to Norfolk, haven't been before and infection rate is not high there at the moment. We won't be going to any shops or restaurants, have tesco delivery and might do take away fish chips.

It was a huge decision for me to make Slattherat but now I have done it feel alot better that the family can look forward to something and we are taking minimal risks having done research on area and property etc.

If you are that concerned, I would arrive the following morning. You'll then be 24 hours since the last guests checked out and 16 hours since the cleaners left, so minimises the risk further.

Honestly if I was as anxious as you are I’m not sure I’d go in your position. Will you enjoy it if you’re worrying about sofas etc?

Yesitsthethruth123 · 12/07/2020 11:09

It'll be absolutely fine, stop worrying and have a lovely holiday.

Seeline · 12/07/2020 11:13

I can't see carpets will be an issue unless you're crawling around on the floor? Take a throw/ blanket for the sofa.

I really don't think it is much of a risk though.....

Norfolk is lovely. Have a great holiday.
