Cornwall - booking a holiday cottage where to go?

I have narrowed it down to st Ives, Looe or Port Isaac. We want a typical Cornish village, walks, beach, a restaurant and shop, maybe a boat trip, I want to be able to buy fresh fish and cook it for dinner etc.We won’t have a car but not intending to be venturing to other places. All of the above we can get to by public transport. Which would you recommend? Or any other places?

Personally I think st Ives and Port Issac nicer than Looe, but they are probably more expensive?

Port Isaac is the smallest of the three that you have said. It is quaint and lovely but you’ll be bored pretty quickly.
Boat trips aren’t happening at the moment.

Thank you, it’s for next year so hopefully boat trips may be happening then. Port Isaac appeals to me the most but I did wonder if it might be a bit too small. Are there places that you can walk to from there? Or maybe short bus trips?

We have done St Ives and Looe without a car. Both are lovely but St Ives is easier - there’s a wider choice of eating places and more public transport options. More to do, and more beaches in the town to walk to/around. You can bus to Lands End and St Michaels Mount easily.

From Looe, we walked to Polperro and got the boat back, and also walked to the monkey sanctuary. I think there would be other woodland walks as well as the coastal path.

How long is your journey on public transport to St Ives? We love it in St Ives but from Liverpool by public transport it would take us over 9 hours. Quite a few changes. So we go by car, and even then the journey is a nightmare. Worth it though. Restaurants are brrilliant, beaches are fab. Very very busy in school holidays unfortunately. Shuffling along the pavement type of busy.

Sorry I’ve just posted another thread as I had stupidly forgotten I’d already posted. I am now deciding between port Isaac and st Ives, but thinking of going in May instead of summer hols. The journey is around 8 hours to both by train but we will break it up with a night in Plymouth .

Both St. Ives & Port Isaac are teaming with tourists at all times of the year.

Port Isaac is more of an overcrowded fishing village; while St. Ives is bigger and has a branch of Tate Modern - it's especially well known for it's artist community, if you like that kind of thing.

Not much of a beach at Port Isaac.

I love St Ives. We tend to go at Easter so less busy than the summer holidays. Everything you could ask for, several lovely beaches, plenty of restaurants and cafes, train station if you want a day trip.

Gintime74 · 28/06/2020 16:14

Thank you, I think I will go with st Ives in May.

St Ives would be much easier to do by public transport than Port Isaac.
