Area of natural beauty - hotel for anniversary?

In the midst of global pandemic, DH only realised last year we are coming up to 10 yr anniversary this summer. And despite lockdown we are getting on better than ever so are keen to celebrate and have some really lovely time together assuming we are allowed to ship kids off to grandparents by then.

We live in a pretty but unremarkable patch of the midlands so am keen to be blown away by some stunning UK scenery then bunker down in hotel luxury for the rest of the time.

Any suggestions both for areas / towns to google and or lovely hotels surrounded by gorgeous walks and mountains??

Kinloch Rannoch is lovely. We've had an anniversary there.

Quite a distance from you but maybe worth it?

Mmm yes I think too far unfortunately. It's prob going to be a 2 night max break and I'm not good in the car.

Am furiously experimenting with the Trainline to see if it's worth doing on a train from Milton Keynes or if we'd be a bit stuck once we got there.

We had a lovely time in Harrogate. Town is delightful and gorgeous countryside round about.

The Daffodil Hotel & Spa in Grasmere, Lake District.
Right next to a lake, walks, mountains / fells in every direction.

If you want stunning scenery then Anglesey is the place - not too far from the Midlands and totally worth the car journey. I've always stayed in cottages though so not sure about hotels!

Tortworth Court is a very nice hotel on the edge of the cotswolds, I had a lovely anniversary stay there.

I also was going to suggest the Daffodil in Grasmere! I used to live there and it's a lovely setting. The Lakeside is also beautiful.

Have you been to the Peak District? In the Midlands and very beautiful.

I once went to a wedding here which was lovely: www.losehillhouse.co.uk

Beautiful countryside for walking and nice day trips to Castleton/Buxton/Bakewell fairly nearby.

As much as I'd love to go to the Lakes I'm not sure I can face the car journey and the train does leave us a bit stranded once were there.

So I think Peak District might be the winner!

Lake Vrwynwy (sp) in Mid Wales. www.lakevyrnwy.com/

Don't let the lack of car put you off the Lake District. There are lots of nice walks from Grassmere.

Or Great Langdale. DH and I plan to stay here for our 10th next summer: www.odg.co.uk/

Very jealous. We had a very fancy hotel booked for our 20th anniversary and MIL was going to come and babysit. But she's in her 80s and in Scotland where things are still stricter so that's not going to happen. Hoping things will be better next year for turning 50.

CountFosco · 20/06/2020 20:49

That's very negative. Went to the peak District last year and had a great holiday.

JacobReesMogadishu · 20/06/2020 20:55

Bakewell in the Peak District is a good location. Bagshaw Hall is nice.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/06/2020 20:48

I take it you've been to the Cotswolds before?
