London - where to stay

Visiting London in the Easter holidays, 2 adults 2 DC (9&5). Will be visiting Natural History & Science Museum, sightseeing, Lego shop, Covent Garden.

Looking for budget accommodation ideally situated near to where we want to visit or close to tube station and also near family friendly restaurants.

Many of the central premier inns/travelodge are already sold out, but we do have the option of

Travelodge Covent Garden - most expensive, central location.

Premier Inn London Bridge or Southwark - I read on a previous post on here that tube links to the southbank aren’t so good though - is that right?

Holiday Inn Express Earls Court - I can get this one v v cheaply with Tesco clubcard boost, trade-off being its further out so longer tube journey.

What would you choose? Would you pay the extra for the convenience of being central? Or would you save the cash & stay further out? Is one area better than the others in terms of restaurants, things to do, accessibility via tube?

Any alternative suggestions of places to stay very much appreciated

Thanks

Covent Garden and pay the extra purely for convenience. I’m not a lover of the Tube so less travelling is a plus for me.

Earl's Court is very near the museums and really not far from the centre of London. Any of those areas are full of interest and all are convenient for what you've planned. As for Tubes, don't forget London's excellent bus network - an app like Probus makes life much easier.

Get your purse out. Loads of money. Even for basic hotels.

Premier Inn earls court. Great location

Earl’s Court hands down. It’s very central - walkable to the museums and also Kensington gardens / Ken high street for good food options. In fact Gloucester Road (short walk) also good for restaurants.

It's further out than the other recommendations but the Travelodge in Finchley Central is CHEAP! It's < ten minute walk to the tube station that will get you to Kings Cross in 20 minutes, from there you can get a tube onwards to pretty much anywhere you want to get to in London. It's close to a Tesco and a Waitrose to pick up snacks for the day and there's a while host of family friendly restaurants on the same road where you'll be paying suburb prices, not overpriced tourist prices

Thanks for all the suggestions. Despite the extra cost & not being able to utilise my clubcard vouchers, we’ve decided on Covent Garden this time, just for convenience of being central to everything we want to do/see & knowing there’ll be plenty of places to eat. Never stayed over in central London before so think once we’ve sussed it out we’ll be more confident to stay further afield next time. Will definitely keep a note of the suggestions for Earls Court & Finchley for a future visit Smile.

Realise we need to book MUCH earlier next time too - most of the premier inns were fully booked so there wasn’t much to choose from!
